Job Summary

UT Southwestern Medical Center is hiring for Senior Grants and Contracts Specialist, Pathology The position will assist researchers for proposal development and submission; monitor, review and reconcile grants and contracts project budget and expenditures; advise on post-award spending and commitment activities; and oversee compliance related to fund and revenue. In addition, this position will develop and communicate financial reports supporting project status to P.I.s on regular basis, and create effective forecasting models, scenarios, and decision aides. The person will play a key role in departmental monthly grant financial review process and meet with the P.I.s to obtain positive confirmation on Salary and Wages attestations and update grants/contract financial status and projections. This person will also interpret complex institutional and government policies (FAR, Cost Accounting Standards, Office of Management and Budget circulars, sponsored guidelines, etc.) for project personnel and help guide other staff in interpreting complex policies.

Experience and Education 
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, public administration, or related field and four (4) years’ experience in business or public administration with emphasis on customer service in financial or contracting position.
  • Certified Research Administrator (CRA) designation preferred.
  • Applicants without the stated degree, but with significant additional professional applicable experience may be considered in lieu of education requirement.
Job Duties
  • Gathers and provides information regarding funding opportunities and application procedures to applicants by reading newsletters and announcements, search directories, funding files, and other relevant resources.
  • Provides guidance to researchers for proposal development and submission by interpreting and ensuring adherence to sponsor and university announcements and guidelines.
  • Provides grants management support to researchers by negotiating and processing awards, interpreting award conditions, obtaining approvals for award modifications, and completing required reports.
  • Negotiates contracts with various agencies (state and federal government, private organizations), pharmaceutical companies, and biotechnological companies to achieve agreements satisfactory to all parties.
  • May draft entire contracts of various types following state laws and Board of Regents' guidelines.
  • Provides working supervision to Grants and Contracts Specialist and administrative positions.
  • **Other Duties: Performs other duties as assigned.
