San Francisco, United States Uplinq Full time

Individual applicants only. Accounting firms should not solicit business based on this opening.

About Uplinq

We are an Arizona-based startup building software to automate bookkeeping and tax for small businesses. This wasn't always our plan. When we started Uplinq, we wanted to help small businesses use their financial data to make timely business decisions, survive loan due diligence, and work with acquirers/investors. We tried solving these challenges directly to no avail and quickly realized they are all symptoms of a bigger problem: bookkeeping is hard, and SMBs hate doing it.

Since then we've been hard at work developing accounting technology for small businesses that is high-quality, real-time, and affordable. Our customers are dentists, restaurant owners, insurance agents, realtors - real people from all walks of life. Some tried to manage their books in QBO themselves and couldn't keep up. Some paid a CPA firm too much for bookkeeping that only gets updated once a quarter. Some switched from companies like Bench and Pilot looking for better service.

We are a tight-knit team including CPAs, engineers, tax preparers, product designers, and marketers. We support each other, communicate openly, have fun at work, and all believe in Uplinq's mission to help real people run their businesses better.

About the Role

Our accounting team is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Senior Accounting Specialist to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of our bookkeeping operations, focusing on our AI-driven bookkeeping and tax products. This role involves managing comprehensive accounting tasks and ensuring seamless operations through close interactions with both internal stakeholders and clients.

Our ideal candidate:

  • is adept at configuring and optimizing setups for Uplinq's bookkeeping services, completing monthly and quarterly reviews and closes, and can troubleshoot any accounting issue that may arise.
  • possesses robust problem-solving skills, capable of handling complex catch-up and clean-up projects efficiently.
  • engages effectively with high-value clients to optimize their account setups and enhance their overall experience with Uplinq's services.
  • leads and supports a team in bookkeeping tasks, leveraging Uplinq's technology solution and system to ensure consistency and accuracy in categorization, job costing, and reconciliation.
  • is skilled in transitioning companies to maintenance bookkeeping, ensuring a seamless handoff to Accounting Specialists.
  • excels in communication, able to clearly convey and explain intricate accounting data to clients as needed.
  • extensive experience completing month-end and year-end close process to ensure timely close of financial statements.
  • has 5+ years in both cash and accrual based accounting, with a preference for those with multi-client experience. Expertise in financial statement preparation, reconciliations, and U.S. GAAP compliance is essential.
  • is eager to drive continuous improvement in Uplinq's automated bookkeeping systems and contribute to our business intelligence solutions.
  • preferably has a Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, or related fields.
Here are some examples of projects that you could own in this role:
  • Design and implement comprehensive setups for new clients, ensuring seamless integration with Uplinq's bookkeeping systems.
  • Lead troubleshooting initiatives within QuickBooks Online, enhancing functionality and user experience.
  • Apply your critical thinking and problem-solving abilities to analyze and rectify any bookkeeping issues. This includes identifying discrepancies in a set of books, devising a comprehensive action plan to address these issues, and either executing the plan yourself or overseeing its implementation to ensure accurate and efficient outcomes.
  • Develop strategic action plans for extensive accounting projects, setting benchmarks for timeliness and quality.
  • Collaborate on high-level client interactions to refine and tailor accounting services, ensuring client satisfaction and operational excellence.
  • Mentor and train junior Accounting Specialists as a Senior Accounting Specialist. You will have opportunities to teach higher-level accounting skills, resolution of complex bookkeeping issues, and train team members in various software applications and processes to enhance their proficiency and effectiveness in their roles.
This role is perfect for someone who thrives in a dynamic, innovative environment and is looking to make a significant impact in the fintech industry.
