Herron Preparatory Academy is seeking a Middle School Counselor.

The School Counselor promotes and enhances the academic progress of the students of Herron Classical Schools. The School Counselor reports to the Director of Counseling.

Specific objectives and responsibilities of the position include:
  • Develops and provides an effective comprehensive school counseling program to serve the needs of all students.
    • Provides individual counseling services to meet the developmental, preventive and remedial needs of students.
    • Demonstrates knowledge of national, state, and local school counseling standards.
    • Collect, analyze, and use data to develop, implement, and evaluate the school counseling
    • Implements appropriate and prevention-oriented group activities to meet student needs and school goals.
    • Provides consultation to teachers and school leadership regarding information, strategies, and approaches for maximizing the total development of students.
    • Makes appropriate referrals to assist parents/families and students to obtain the benefit from community services.
    • Monitors students' attendance and supports efforts to improve attendance.
  • Provides academic advising services to assigned students.
    • Initiates and continually updates academic plans for assigned students.
    • Assists with resolving issues and concerns between faculty and parents.
    • Monitors academic reports and academic support and remediation programs that are developed and implemented.
    • Assist with interim & standardized testing required by the State of Indiana.
  • Assists the Director of Counseling to plan and facilitate family information nights for scholars in assigned grade.
  • Works collaboratively with the enrollment office to coordinate new scholar enrollment and orientation.
  • Coordinates the curriculum and dissemination of social-emotional learning lesson plans.
  • Serves as the school's liaison for outside therapy services.
  • Assists the Director of Counseling with periodic program reviews by collecting and analyzing data to guide program direction and emphasis.
  • Participates in parent conferences and IEP meetings as requested.
  • Collaboratively works with the Assistant Head of School and Student Culture Team to ensure students adhere to policies as they relate to IDOE requirements.
  • Collaboratively works with the Assistant Head of School and Student Culture Team to help scholars with personal and social needs in order to facilitate academic progress.
  • Tracks student's 504 Plans. Disseminates 504 accommodations to faculty. Initiates 504 plans when needed.
  • Attendance at scheduled faculty meetings, professional development meetings and other sessions as determined by the Head of School.
  • Attendance at evening events that include but may not be limited to Parent Orientation, Meet the Teacher Night, Parent/Teacher Conferences and Open Houses. The dates of these events will be communicated in advance.
  • An expectation of professional and ethical conduct and professional growth throughout the year.
  • Collaboratively works with the administration and others to support the policies, guidelines, and working procedures for Herron Classical Schools.
  • Performs other duties as determined necessary by the administration.
  • An assignment of 260 days with vacation as approved by the Head of School. Flexible schedule is allowed during summer, provided that all responsibilities are executed and that the flexible schedule does not interfere with planning meetings and retreats with leadership.
Qualifications
  • 5 to 7 years teaching experience required, preferably in a culturally diverse high school.
  • Counseling license required.
  • Experience leading groups and working in teams to achieve academic success.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and changing priorities.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products.
  • Bachelors' Degree required, Masters' Degree required.


Compensation
