The Database Administrator is responsible for database administration activities, ensuring optimal performance, integrity, and security of database systems. This role involves the installation, configuration, and management of database systems and related software, as well as performing both logical and physical database design. The Database Administrator is responsible for managing database objects, defining access, and ensuring security. This role involves developing corporate database strategies, managing Database Management Systems (DBMS), and consulting with applications analysts and end-users to implement databases and access information. They maintain database performance and ensure data integrity, quality, and reliability. The role involves close collaboration across various technical and business teams, providing technical support and expertise. The Database Administrator develops and documents system configurations, department processes, and prepares reports and metrics on system performance. Responsible for compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, industry standards, corporate policies, guidelines, and procedures, including but not limited to, RUS, OSHA, SOX, NERC, FERC and ITS requirements. Promotes an environment of compliance and continuous improvement to meet the Corporation's goals and objectives. Job Duties Manages and controls database objects, defining and implementing access, specification, placement, and security. Manages systems and network resources relating to database objects.Develops corporate database strategies Evaluate, specify, install, configure, test, and manage DBMS and related software Consults with applications analyst and end-users, implements logical/physical databases, evaluates/recommends approaches to accessing information, conducts bulk data manipulation, identifies information resource Maintains database performance by calculating optimum values for database parameters; implementing new releases; completing maintenance requirements; evaluating computer operating systems and hardware products Establishes measures to ensure data integrity, data quality, and reliability Maintains quality service by developing and maintaining department policies and procedures and establishing/enforcing organization standards Engage in continuous improvement activities to enhance system performance and reliability. Participate in industry conferences and workshops to stay current with emerging technologies and best practices. Provide technical support, expertise, and advise across the IT function REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Education: A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field from an accredited college or university. Database Administrator I Experience: Entry-level position. Familiarity with Database Management Systems (DBMS) and general database support is expected. Equivalent Experience: Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience may also be considered. Responsibility: Assists in managing and controlling database objects and access. Participates in database optimization and troubleshooting under some supervision. Database Administrator II Experience: Minimum of 2 years in managing DBMS, database optimization, and troubleshooting. Equivalent Experience: Minimum of 6 years of relevant experience may also be considered. Responsibility: Independently manages DBMS and assists in developing database strategies. Begins to take on more complex database optimization and troubleshooting tasks. Database Administrator III Experience: Minimum of 4 years in managing DBMS, datab se optimization, and troubleshooting. Equivalent Experience: Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience may also be considered. Responsibility: Independently manages DBMS, develops database strategies, and conducts database optimization and troubleshooting. Begins to lead small projects and works closely with other teams to ensure seamless integration and operation of databases. Database Administrator IV Experience: Minimum of 6 years in managing DBMS, database optimization, and troubleshooting. Equivalent Experience: Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience may also be considered. Responsibility: Leads projects for the development of database strategies and management of DBMS. Takes on a leadership role in database optimization and troubleshooting, and provides technical support across the IT function. Licenses, Certifications and/or Registrations - The following relevant certifications are a plus: - - Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate - Oracle Database Administrator Certified Professional - IBM Certified Database Administrator - Google Professional Data Engineer Certification - MongoDB Certified DBA Associate - AWS Certified Database - Specialty - SAP Certified Technology Associate - Database Administrator - Microsoft SQL Server database certifications - Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) Data Center - Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) - PostgreSQL Certified Engineer - CompTIA Database+ Certification - Certified Database Design Specialist - Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) - ITILv3 or ITILv4 Foundation Specialized Skills (e.g., typing, computers, software, tools and equipment uses, etc.): Technical Expertise Oracle RMAN, Netbackup Oracle 19c and 21c database administration, management, and patching SQL Server 2016 and above database administration, management, and patching Windows Server 2016 and above with focus on windows and SQL Server clustering Microsoft Azure experience is a plus PostgreSQL experience is a plus Disaster Recovery processes and procedures RedHat Linux and Windows Server Administration Linux Shell Scripting and PowerShell Deep understanding of RDMS systems architecture and design Experience with 3rd party database monitoring, design, and performance tools Business Intelligence tool support Experience with DevOps practices and tools (CI/CD pipelines, Jenkins). Knowledge of ITIL processes and best practices. Tools and Technologies: Experience with configuration management tools. Familiarity with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes). Proficient in scripting languages (PowerShell, Bash, Python). Experience with ITSM tools such as ServiceNow, Ivanti ITSM, etc. Security: In-depth understanding of network and system security best practices. Expertise in data access, data security solutions, and data protection strategies. Soft Skills: Excellent problem-solving/analytical skills and attention to detail.
