Responsibilities

Work Schedule:
Work schedule shall be betwee 0700-1700 Monday-Friday to include a one-hour uncompensated meal break as determined by the clinical department.

Core Duties: The duties include, but are not limited to the following;

• Plan and organize work of considerable difficulty and responsibility under minimal supervision.
• Participate in research and performance improvement studies.
• Conduct nutrition assessment/evaluation which includes nutrient intake, activity level, appetite, intake of vitamins, minerals, nutritional supplements, and other complimentary alternative medicine usage, weight history, taste changes, feeding problems, food intolerance, food-drug interactions, unhealthy diet behaviors, socioeconomic and ethnic background, documented medical history, current diagnoses and medical treatment modalities, current drug therapy, and clinical signs and symptoms of nutritional deficiencies.
• Apply the basic principles of enteral and parenteral nutrition support.
• Apply principles and practices of clinical dietetics and medical nutrition therapy in order to plan, develop, and independently coordinate medical nutrition therapy intervention, interdisciplinary care plans, and nutrition education activities.
• Conduct studies, analysis, and document findings to evaluate staff, food, nutrition supplements/feeding or meal alternatives and therapies, supplies, equipment, and service in order to improve the efficiency of the operation.
• Apply current food service systems management, principles, and practices within a healthcare environment.
• Execute nutrition policy and program requirements IAW instruction and guidance established by AF/SG.
• Use a wide range of principles, practices and procedures of the science of dietetics and behavior change theories required to plan, implement and evaluate HP nutrition programs.
• In partnership with HP staff, assess nutrition behaviors, environment and needs of the beneficiary population using available and applicable tools; determine/prioritize appropriate installation nutrition priorities IAW AF HP healthy weight and nutrition goals.
• Employ evidenced-based nutrition methods and behavior change theories in conjunction with the HP staff to develop, coordinate, implement, market and evaluate comprehensive primary, secondary and tertiary nutrition programs and services, as well as other related health and wellness programs, aimed at nutrition improvement, total force readiness and disease prevention/intervention for the beneficiary population.
• Regularly research, develop/acquire, and maintain materials to implement comprehensive evidence-based nutrition programs and services to meet population health priorities and beneficiary needs.
• IAW Community Dietitian Credentials provide Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) for clients from the MTF and as mission allows develop nutrition components of chronic disease management protocols.
• Employ adult learning behavior change theories and teaching techniques to conduct a variety of individual and group nutrition interventions.
• Maintain data quality management (e.g. coding, MEPRS) and reporting requirements in program execution IAW AF instruction and guidance, the Joint Commission and Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care.
• When appropriate, document nutrition education and/or medical nutrition therapy IAW ADA Nutrition Care Process, ADA Nutrition Care Manual, and AF Dietetics Nutrition Care guidelines and other applicable standards.
• Provide expertise to implement and evaluate nutrition programs for all populations.
• Communicate and coordinate nutrition programs among local leadership and target beneficiary populations.
• Employ appropriate social marketing tools to meet program goals and objectives.
• Participate in teleconferences, updates, working groups, review panels, symposiums related to nutrition education/MNT programming, management or operations.
• Deliver briefings, educational sessions, seminars, and worksite wellness programs as needed.
• Maintain positive relationships with both internal and external AFMS customers.
• Training for Continuous Education Units (CEU's) will be cover by company expense.
• Should be a role model in weight, fitness, and other healthy lifestyle behaviors.
• Contracted employee must obtain the Wellness Specialist Certification from the National Wellness Institute within 18 months from the time of appointment.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

• Degree:Possess a Bachelor's degree.• Education: Graduate from a college or university accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), or a national nursing accrediting agency recognized by the US Department of Education.

Graduate from an accredited college or university and completion of didactic program in dietetics approved by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE) of American Dietetic Association (ADA).
Successful completion of one of the following CADE-approved supervised practice programs:
(1) Dietetic internship with generalist of military emphasis.
(2) Coordinated program in dietetics with generalist emphasis.

Experience: One year of specialized experience in diet therapy after graduation.

• Possesses three (3) years of experience in wellness, sports nutrition or nutrition education.
• Should be a role model in weight, fitness, and other healthy lifestyle behaviors.

* Certification:Board eligible Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics by the ADA.

• Licensure/Registration: Except for a non-personal services contract provider, the authorizing document to practice for a dietitian is a national registration. They are exempt from maintaining a license from a particular jurisdiction (i.e., U.S. state territory). Must posses the credentials of "Registered Dietitian (RD)/Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN)" per the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR). State licensure is an option, but not a requirement.

* Security: Must possess ability to pass a Government background check/security clearance.
* Life Support Certification: Possess a current AHA OR ARC BLS Healthcare Provider certification.
