Responsibilities

In keeping with the French Hospital Medical Center health care philosophy the Lay Patient Navigator supports the activities of the Community Education Department. The Lay Patient Navigator functions as a bridge between community health service agencies and the Latino Population of the San Luis Obispo County. The Lay Person Navigator provides a safe culturally sensitive services beginning with community outreach and education and extending all the way through pre-screening screening and support services. The Lay Patient Navigator must exhibit sensitivity to the cultural and linguistic differences appropriate to the community served.

Qualifications

- Knowledge of the Hispanic social and econmic environment. Has experience in areas of working with and in supportive services of the Hispanic needs. (preferred)

- Must speak English and Spanish

- Driver's License and proof of liability insurance. 

- Knowledge of educational process including methods strategies and principles of adult education.

- Sensitive and caring with effective communication and interpersonal skills.

- Listening problem-solving and coordinating skills to organize implement and evaluate programs.

- Strong writing and public speaking skills. Strong leadership skills and an ability to work harmoniously and effectively with others.

- Basic computer skills. Flexible and able to handle several projects concurrently.

- Skills in organization analysis and communication.

- Ability to work tactfully and effectively with team members members of other departments patients community members community service organizations and medical staff.
