Omega Community Development Corporation- Building on its 25-year history, Omega CDC is advancing innovative approaches to asset development. Its efforts are focused on serving low-income, predominantly African American residents in Dayton, Ohio. Our direct service programs serve thousands of individuals each year education, health and wellness, community engagement, and economic stability efforts. In the process, Omega CDC is helping to develop best practices in the emerging field of place-based, cradle-to-career work.
HOPE ZONE PROMISE NEIGHBORHOOD
In December 2022, Omega CDC was awarded a 5-year implementation grant from the Department of Education to implement the Hope Zone Promise Neighborhood a neighborhood-based effort to improve education and economic stability with children and families in Northwest Dayton through a cradle-to-college-to-career continuum of services. This initiative involves over 33 community-based organization partners as well as Montgomery County, City of Dayton, and Dayton Public Schools as close collaborators in the implementation effort. Omega CDC is the lead agency, fiscal agent, and project manager for the Hope Zone Promise Neighborhood.
The Hope Zone Promise Neighborhood (HZPN) initiative seeks to improve academic achievement and family economic success at three Dayton Public Schools: Fairview Elementary School, Edwin Joel Brown Middle School, and Thurgood Marshall STEM High School. Through a series of community surveys in the Hope Zone, residents have confirmed that housing and income are their primary challenges. These concerns impact neighborhood stability, student mobility, and ultimately, academic outcomes in the Hope Zone.
POSITION SUMMARY
Working under the supervision of the Managing Director of Strategic Initiatives, the Community Development Manager will be responsible for coordinating with all HZPN partners, residents, students, and their families in the Hope Zone to develop a comprehensive community development plan. The community development plan will incorporate strategies that improve built environment as a method of increasing academic achievement and accomplishing resident desires for housing stability, violence prevention, public safety, and public health. Overall goals of the community development plan are aligned with Promise Neighborhood Government Performance and Results Act (GPRA) measures, along with Hope Zone resident desires to ensure that students and families are healthy, feel safe at school and in the community, and live in stable housing.
The ideal candidate will be a data-driven leader and responsible for continuously monitoring program and outcome data, monitoring the progress of each partner on their indicators and outcomes, and coordinating all HZPN and partner staff to deliver services.
