Summary:

The Utility Construction - Supply Chain Specialist will play a critical role in growing the success of our Underground business by focusing on providing our customers with industry-leading support and quality of product. The Supply Chain Specialist is responsible for the partnering on development and execution of the end-to-end Underground business strategy. This position will report to the Sr. Supply Chain Manager.

Essential Functions:

  1. Manage daily purchasing requirements for assigned buylines either directly or with support team members. This includes demand analysis, order placement, and order point management.
  2. Work closely with vendors to review new product releases and revisions to ensure stocked SKUs are up to date with market requirement.
  3. Collaborate with suppliers, sales, and pricing teams to develop, communicate, and implement competitive and profitable day-to-day selling strategies. This will include branch visits or other face-to-face meetings to review products and other performance metrics.
  4. Work closely with marketing to identify item promotion potential and promotion structure.
  5. Maintain a solid working knowledge of essential commodity trends including industry trends, cost drivers, global pricing, material lead times, and technical/manufacturing processes.
  6. Optimize inventory levels at the distribution centers and branch level based on market needs and financial return.
  7. Negotiate cost savings through purchase discounts, waived or delayed price increases, or other cost reductions. Track these savings and report out as requested.
  8. Negotiate annual rebate programs as directed.
  9. Create reports to routinely measure performance and identify potential problems.
  10. Work with other team members as necessary on unassigned suppliers or product lines to coordinate overall Supply Chain Strategy
  11. Become a subject matter expert on Utility Construction products such as PVC, handholes, turtles, underground vaults, fittings and accessories.
Education and/or Experience:
  1. Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Management, or Supply Chain Management.
  2. 3 - 5 Years’ experience in Purchasing / Supply Chain/Sales Management, preferably in a multi-location distribution environment.
  3. 1-2 years of Project Management or Supply Chain experience within Utility Construction company.
  4. Strong analytical, communication and financial skills.
  5. Hands-on role requiring willingness and ability to be both the strategist and tactician.
  6. Ability to work in fast-paced organization.
  7. Proven influencing, planning and prioritizing skills.
  8. Must possess a high degree of organizational skills and be self-starter.
  9. Experience with ERP demand planning and procurement tools preferred.
  10. Any requirements above may be waved for relevant industry experience.
Position Requirements:
  1. Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  2. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills for effective interface with all internal and external contacts.
  3. Knowledge of Utility Construction industry.
  4. Must be able to travel as needed via air and car. Up to 25% travel local or regional travel will be required.
  5. Must be able to sit/stand for long periods of time at an office workstation.
