Physician Assistant Outpatient Clinic

JOB SUMMARY:
The Clinic Physician Assistant (PA) shall provide comprehensive management of patients within their given specialty and according to privileges approved by the Medical Staff by-laws. The PA has responsibility, authority, and accountability for the provision of care through collaboration with a physician. The PA manages and provides patient care activities for a group of patients and their families through the application of independent judgment, communication, and collaboration with all team members. The PA establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with physicians, other health care providers, patients, and their families, to achieve desired patient outcomes throughout the continuum of care. The PA will work in collaboration with a physician.
JOB SPECIFIC FUNCTIONAL SKILLS
Competency Collaboration
- Interact with various members of the healthcare team to meet patient care needs. Identify the teaching/learning needs of patients and document patient care services in the electronic health record.
- Be able to take accurate patient notes, record pertinent information regarding the care, and take physical examinations.
- Prepare patient summaries, collect specimens, and carry out the analysis of cultures and tests.
- Be able to review medical documents from outside medical providers and facilities.
- Be able to prepare discharge instructions if they have been directly involved in patient care
- Know what clinical procedures need done and how to perform them.
- Provide counseling and instruction regarding common patient problems, limitations, and abilities.
- Identify normal and abnormal findings in history, physical examination, and commonly performed laboratory studies.
- Be knowledgeable about all medical terminology
- Have basic computer skills and proficiency in documenting and looking up clinical information in electronic records.
- Protects patients, visitors, and employees by adhering to all policies and protocols, and identifying patients using two identifiers (i.e., name and date of birth) prior to providing any treatment or procedure.
- Consults supervising provider as needed.
Education:
- Graduate of an Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) approved Physician Assistant training program.
- Previous experience in a clinical setting is strongly preferred.
- Must be credentialed according to the Grafton City Hospital Medical Staff By-Laws and appointed as an Allied Health Professional Affiliate Staff member.
- Must possess current license as a Physician Assistant by the WV Board of Medicine. Certification by the National Commission for Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
- Must have or be able to obtain prescriptive authority.
Heavy Work:
- Exerting up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently and/or more than 20 lbs. of force constantly.
