A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A FAMILY PERMANENCY SPECIALIST

As a Family Permanency Specialist, you will use specific recruitment techniques based on each child's individual needs to find loving families for children in foster care who are awaiting permanency. This position requires an effective communicator who can serve internal and external customers in a timely and tactful manner while handling multiple priorities and maintaining confidentiality in all aspects of performed work.

You will partner with Oregon Department of Human Services (ODHS), access records and conduct thorough reviews of the child's ODHS case record to identify relatives, prior foster parents, or others who have been significant in a child's life and may be able to offer the child a permanent home. Review all case materials on the child, including child summary, psychological evaluations, and other materials; contacts the child's caseworker, therapist, and foster parents to obtain updated information. You will establish a relationship with the child and the ODHS caseworker to ensure that appropriate interventions are provided to prepare the child for adoption. You will also develop an individualized recruitment plan for each child, along with the ODHS caseworker, that is based on the child's background and current needs.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR A FAMILY PERMANENCY SPECIALIST

  • Master's degree with one year of service, OR a bachelor's degree in relevant field, plus 5 years of relevant experience in social work, counseling or psychology, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid driver's license and a good driving record.
