Description

What is my day to day like?

As our Manager of Project Engineering, you will be responsible for overseeing the planning, execution, and successful delivery of major engineering projects, while ensuring they are completed on time and within budget. This position works with a cross-functional team in managing project scopes, budgets, schedules, and lead the selection and negotiation of contractors and equipment suppliers. Your day-to-day will include but is not limited to:

Project Management
  • Establishing project scope, key deliverables, budget, and schedule estimates for all major projects.
  • Determining infrastructure/equipment layouts, building layouts, and space preparation as required.
  • Identifying, selecting, and negotiating with key contractors for all major projects; selecting the appropriate construction manager for large construction projects.
  • Establishing major equipment comparison data for target suppliers, conducting capability analysis, and setting selection criteria for capital projects.
  • Coordinating equipment specifications, identifying potential suppliers, preparing RFQs, and releasing them for quotations.
  • Managing total project costs and schedules to align with the confirmed plan.
  • Managing the flow of communication with key stakeholders, providing status updates, and ensuring timely issue resolution.
  • Managing project staff to ensure on-time and on-budget completion of all capital projects.
  • Ensuring the delivery of training for appropriate personnel on new equipment or processes.
  • Developing and preparing a project scorecard of schedule, budget, and performance specs for all major projects, and reviewing for "lessons learned."
Capital Planning Support
  • Participating in the development of the annual capital budget to support the business plan.
  • Preparing Capital Authorization Requests (CAR) as needed, providing effective project explanations, justifications, timelines, and ROI calculations; preparing detailed CAR presentations for management approval.
  • Supporting the maintenance of the overall engineering project schedule, reviewing periodically to ensure all projects stay on track.
  • Overseeing the site's capital request list.
Project Planning
  • Participating with local government authorities to secure favorable tax and financial arrangements as needed.
  • Assisting in evaluating staffing costs and labor sources.
  • Work in accordance with all company policies and procedures regarding employment, safety, quality, product safety and legality, security, and regulatory compliance as applicable.
What makes a person successful in this position?
  • Strong project management skills; excellent organizational skills with ability to focus on details.
  • Demonstrated skills in the design and execution of large and complex capital projects, including equipment installations
  • Demonstrated use of effective documentation for schedule and budget management
  • Knowledge of construction management and manufacturing environments including current compliance requirements for safety
  • BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering / other Engineering or a related field
  • 10+ years experience in working on or leading large engineering projects
