We are seeking a Behavior Support Associate with experience and expertise in autism to join our team at Butterfield Schoo for the 2024-2025 school year. This role nvolves supporting students with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and behavioral challenges, facilitating their inclusion in the classroom, and helping them achieve their educational goals. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of behavior management strategies, individualized education plans (IEPs), and autism-specific interventions.

Pay rate will be commensurate with experience, and includes full benefits: medical, dental and life insurance, personal and sick days.

Qualifications:

Certifications:
  • Certification as a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT), preferred
  • TEACCH certification, required
Education: An Associate Degree is required.

Experience:
  • At least 3-4 years of experience working with students with autism and/or behavioral challenges, preferably in an educational setting.
  • Familiarity with autism-specific interventions, behavior management techniques, and individualized education plans.
  • Familiar with Star and PCI curriculum
License: Must possess current and valid ISBE licensure with a PEL, SUB or ELS-(PARA) Paraeducator, and be registered in Lake County, with a PEL preferred.
Essential Functions and Performance Responsibilities: (These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.)

Student Support:
  • Provide one-on-one or small group support to students with autism and behavioral challenges, helping them with academic tasks, social skills, and daily routines.
  • Assist in the implementation of individualized education plans (IEPs) and behavior intervention plans (BIPs).
  • Support students in developing and maintaining positive social interactions and communication skills.
  • Utilize autism-specific strategies and interventions to support student engagement and learning.
Behavior Management:
  • Implement and monitor behavior management techniques, including positive reinforcement, redirection, and de-escalation strategies.
  • Collect and record data on student behavior and progress, helping to evaluate the effectiveness of interventions.
  • Collaborate with teachers and related service staff to implement behavior intervention plans as needed.
Classroom Integration:
  • Assist students with transitioning between activities and environments within the school setting.
  • Support the teacher in creating an inclusive and supportive classroom environment.
  • Provide academic assistance, including modifying materials and supporting instruction as directed by the teacher.
Collaboration and Communication:
  • Work closely with teachers, special education staff, and related service providers to coordinate support for students.
Documentation and Reporting:
  • Maintain accurate records of student performance, behavior incidents, and communication with families.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, carrying, and assisting students as needed.
  • Ability to stand, sit, and move around the classroom for extended periods.
