Position Summary 

The Registered Nurse works under the direction of the Nurse Manager and functions as a Team Leader. He/she is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising all nursing activities related directly or indirectly to patient care for a group of patients within a specific clinical area. He/she evaluates patient’s physical and psychosocial needs, administers direct patient care, and provides education for the patient and their family. The Registered Nurse is responsible for all nursing personnel assigned to the Team. He/she functions as a mentor to their team, teaching and demonstrating nursing care procedures. He/she maintains a professional profile, promotes cooperation, a positive attitude, and creates a safe environment for both patients and staff. The Registered Nurse is responsible for knowing and adhering to established hospital policies and procedures, including all aspects of safety.

Evaluate patient’s physical and psychosocial needs, administers direct patient care, and provides education for the patient/significant other. Teaches and/or demonstrates nursing care procedures. Maintains a professional profile. Promotes cooperation, a positive attitude, healthy lifestyle promotion, and creates a safe environment for both patients and staff. Responsible for knowing and adhering to established hospital policies and procedures, including all aspects of safety.  Assumes accountability for the planning and implementation of care for Phase II, III, and IV Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation, employee fitness and exercise testing. 

Qualifications 

Required Qualifications:   

  • Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing 

  • Current Licensure to practice in New York State 

  • Current BLS provider certification from the American Heart Association 

  • ACLS certification from the American Heart Association 

  • RNC or ACSM eligible

  • Standing/walking 90% of the time 

  • Ability to lift patients with or without assistance 

  • Ability to push heavy objects

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
  • Recent Emergency Department experience

  • This function/position maybe designated as “essential.” This means that when the Hospital is faced with an institutional emergency, employees in such positions may be required to remain at their work location or to report to work to protect, recover, and continue operations at Stony Brook Medicine, Stony Brook Southampton Hospital and related facilities.

Prior to start date, the selected candidate must meet the following requirements:

  • Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Southampton's Employee Health Services*
  • Successfully complete a 4-panel drug screen*
  • Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre-employment screenings.
  • Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).

Failure to comply with any of the above requirements could result in a delayed start date and/or revocation of the employment offer.

*The Human Resources department will be responsible for any fee incurred for examination.
