SUMMARY OF OPPORTUNITY:

We are looking for an Intensive Supports Therapist (IST) who will positively impact student success by providing immediate and long term therapeutic support to students served in intensive programs (ROOTS, ED, alternative options, etc.). The IST addresses barriers to student learning, including social, emotional and mental health challenges and provides recommendations for supports and services for families.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

The following outlines what your core duties and responsibilities will be for this position and provides a sample overview of what your day-to-day may look like.

Core Duties and Responsibilities
  • Identify students requiring access to therapeutic supports who may not otherwise be served by community partners
  • Work with building leaders, USS leadership, students, and families to ensure clear communication streams exist
  • Provide therapeutic and counseling related services to individual students, as well as groups of students
  • Lead prevention groups in SPED and general alternative options (grief, incarcerated parents, violence, conflict mediation, etc.)
  • Work with the Social Services Coordinator to provide short-term support to schools with interrupted access to a school social worker or therapeutic services from a community partner
  • Maintain data for the purpose of demonstrating the impact of therapeutic interventions and support
  • Support each assigned school with intervention and supportive problem-solving for students in the MTSS process who demonstrate potential mental health needs
  • Confer with school counselors, school psychologists, and teaching staff, to obtain additional testing information, and to gain insight on student behavioral disorders affecting the learning process
  • Assist in developing positive behavioral intervention strategies.
  • Access and link community resources to students, families and the school in response to identified needs. To accomplish this responsibility, home and agency visits are required. Serves as the Case Manager for Section 504/Disability which maintains case conference and monitor compliance.
  • Serves as a member of the IPS /Crisis Team and respond when called
"Day In the Life" Overview

On a regular day, as the Lead Family Resource Center Social Worker, you might:
  • Begin your day with a check-in of all students on your caseload
  • Begin counseling groups and document interactions, progress, and regression
  • Contact parents for updates on 504 plans and upcoming meetings
  • Reach out to the McKinney Vento Coordinator to request items for a family in need
  • Provide individual therapy for a student
  • Emails, data collection, and similar USS systems

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS

Master's Degree in School Social Work, School Counseling, or similar from a qualifying university or college.

Working knowledge of federal and state 504 laws, rules, and practices Broad knowledge of Indiana and IPS policies, practices and programs
