The Center Executive Director at the YMCA of Greater Houston is a leadership role responsible for driving the organization's mission and values within the local community. This position plays a pivotal role in overseeing and enhancing the YMCA's impact on the well-being of individuals and families through a diverse range of programs and services.
In this role, you will oversee the operations of a YMCA center, including: member experience, youth and family programs, aquatics, healthy living, local grass-roots marketing, volunteer and staff development, financial development, and community relations. You will work within a centralized, matrixed model of staffing with Facilities, Outreach and Out of School Time.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership and Strategic Planning:
- Provide visionary leadership to motivate and inspire staff.
- Foster a culture of inclusivity, collaboration, and excellence.
- Work in collaboration with association, leadership and vertical leads to ensure quality, consistency, safety and a positive culture.
- Program Development and Quality:
- Develops and directs high-quality member engagement and termination prevention strategies that support center and association goals.
- Oversee program development and quality assurance efforts to ensure that programs meet the needs of the community and adhere to YMCA standards.
- Collaborate with program directors and staff to continuously improve and innovate programs.
- Monitor program outcomes and assess their impact on the community.
- Financial Management:
- Provide strategic financial leadership and guidance to program directors, helping to align financial decisions with the YMCA's mission and strategic objectives.
- Manage the center's budget, ensuring financial sustainability and responsible resource allocation.
- Provide financial reporting to relevant stakeholders.
- Fundraising:
- Work with the center board of directors and other key stakeholders to develop comprehensive fundraising strategies that align with the YMCA's mission and goals.
- Plan, organize and execute fundraising campaigns and events. This includes coordinating annual giving campaigns, major gift initiatives, donor stewardship and support of relevant capital development projects.
- Reporting and Evaluation:
- Prepare regular reports for YMCA leadership, the center board of directors, and relevant stakeholders on performance and progress toward goals.
- Staff Management and Development:
- Recruit, train, and supervise program directors.
- Provide guidance and professional development opportunities to support staff growth and retention.
- Foster a positive and inclusive work environment that promotes teamwork and employee well-being.
- Community Engagement:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with community partners, stakeholders, and local leaders to enhance the YMCA's presence and impact.
- Represent the YMCA at community events and meetings to advocate for the organization's mission.
- Volunteer Engagement:
- Build a strong, engaged and committed board of volunteers that can guide and support the YMCA in fulfilling its mission.
- Build a strong and active board development committee to help guide volunteers in their board development activities.
- Facility Management:
- Ensure that the facility is maintained in a manner that prioritizes safety, fosters a welcoming environment, and upholds our quality standards.
- Collaborate with facilities management team to address maintenance and repair needs.
- Compliance and Risk Management:
- Ensure that the center adheres to YMCA policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Mitigate risks by implementing appropriate safety measures and protocols.

Requirements
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. - Bachelor's degree in human services, social services, business or equivalent.
- Four or more years of management experience, preferably in a YMCA or other not-for-profit agency.
- Ability to direct operations through volunteer development, supervision of staff, development and monitoring of center budget, marketing and public relations, and program development.
- Experience in management and development of volunteer involvement; ability to recruit top community leaders.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Financial management expertise, including budget development and oversight.
- Ability to quickly build rapport and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- Proficiency in strategic planning and execution.
- Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations.
- Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations.
- YMCA Multi-Team or Center Leader certification preferred.
- CPR and First Aid certifications may be required.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Directly supervises full time exempt and non-exempt employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; reviewing and approving timesheets; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; monitoring and updating all required staff certifications; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
COMPUTER LITERACY
Skills are essential in all of the Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and Access. Ability to use these programs to lighten work load, develop reports and to automate procedures is very necessary. Ability to diagnose basic PC problems and to communicate those problems is very important.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
