Position Summary:

The Firmware Engineer will be responsible for directly contributing to software and firmware development projects. This contribution will consist of creating system designs, making architectural decisions, and implementing code.

Projects may be at various stages when the candidate joins, so this position will be dynamic and changing according to project needs. Writing and reviewing functional specifications based on business requirements, writing code, documenting code, testing and validating, or supporting products in the field are all within scope of this position.

As a Firmware Engineer, a strong technical aptitude in software principals is established, as are technical leadership capabilities. The level of effort to manage engineer is low, as the engineer is capable of understanding the big picture and managing deliverables autonomously.

Essential Position Duties:

A candidate for this position possesses the following soft skills and technical competencies.

Soft skills:
  • Ability to interact with internal and external customers in a customer-centric manner
  • Ability to work on cross-functional teams
  • Capable of working autonomously with proper guidance and training
  • Must be flexible and willing to learn new skills
  • Responsible for the design and quality of multiple modules or components that comprise a larger system, which can require technical leadership of junior members responsible for individual modules
  • Committed to working in an alert and safe manner and with engineering rigor while upholding Toyota's Core Values at all time
Technical competencies:
  • 5-10 years experience in firmware projects using Operating Systems, bare metal, or a mixture of the two
  • 5-10 years project experience using object orientated languages and functional languages
  • Knowledge of scripting languages preferred
  • Basic understanding of Toyota Material Handling's product portfolio and business practices
  • Highly skilled and committed to creating strong technical documentation
  • Additional duties assigned as necessary.
Education:

Bachelors of Science in one of the following degrees is required for this position:
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Computer Engineering
  • Computer Science
