SUMMARY

As a Sterile Compounding Pharmacy Technician at Covetrus, you will play a crucial role in our commitment to providing high-quality veterinary medications and ensuring the safety and health of animals. Working in a state-of-the-art compounding facility, you will be responsible for preparing sterile medications, ensuring compliance with regulations and industry standards, and maintaining a clean and organized work environment. Work Restrictions: Because the vital nature of this work is in a safety-sensitive position, we perform random drug testing on all our employees at this location/site.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Prepare sterile medications following established protocols, compounding techniques, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Perform sterile compounding in hazardous and non-hazardous environments, including handling and compounding hazardous medications according to established safety protocols. Adhere to all applicable regulations, including USP 797/800 standards and other relevant guidelines, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal laws.
  • Perform aseptic technique during the compounding process to prevent contamination and ensure sterility. Clean and sanitize the compounding area, equipment, and tools in accordance with regulations and standard operating procedures.
  • Maintain strict documentation and record-keeping of compounded medications, ingredients, lot numbers, and expiration dates.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory levels of compounding supplies, including chemicals, solutions, and equipment, and place orders as needed.
  • Participate in training programs, continuing education, and professional development opportunities to stay updated on compounding techniques, regulations, and industry advancements.
  • Collaborate with pharmacists and other team members to ensure efficient workflow and timely completion of compounding orders.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • None.

QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a compounding Pharmacy Technician, with a focus on non-sterile compounding.
    • Previous experience as a sterile pharmacy technician in a 503A pharmacy or similar environment is preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Current Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) license or registration (if applicable) in the state where the compounding facility is located.
  • Sterile Compounding and Aseptic Technique Certification (S.C.A.T.) preferred.

COMPETENCIES (SKILLS AND ABILITIES)

  • In-depth knowledge of compounding techniques, aseptic processes, and USP 797/800 standards.
  • Familiarity with veterinary medications, dosages, and compounding requirements is a plus.
  • Proficiency in using compounding equipment and software systems, including automated compounders and inventory management systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills to ensure accuracy and efficiency in compounding operations.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a high level of quality and meeting deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe working environment and following all relevant safety protocols.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and work schedules as needed.

  • Must be able to work in an environment with hazardous chemicals, pharmaceutical ingredients, and other chemical and biological hazards. May be required to wear an N-95 mask, gloves, safety glasses, and other personal protective equipment.
  • May occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
