SUMMARY:

The Senior Wireless Engineer is responsible for installing, configuring, and maintaining wireless network equipment, network management, and security including 802.11 b/g/n/ac standards and industry best practices for implementing high-density WIFI solutions. The Senior Wireless Engineer needs to assess, plan, and develop several operations capabilities for wireless telecommunications.
The Senior Wireless Engineer will need to have a strong understanding of wireless network infrastructure and network hardware. Deep knowledge of application transport, unified communications, network security, and network infrastructure protocols is highly desired.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Wireless Management
• Oversee day-to-day operations and supervises the Wireless Network Team.
• Devise, plan, deploy, and improve wireless networks from the beginning to implementation by collaborating with vendors, managers, and network engineers.
• Understand client requirements to be able to cater to their appropriate needs.
• Use tools to evaluate test and tweak wireless products, such as routers, switches, hubs, bridges, virtual private networks (VPNs), and network amplifiers, among others.
• Design and validate the performance, quality, and reliability of the wireless network systems.
• Design and implement WLANs and other wireless networks.
• Make use of enterprise monitoring tools.
• Optimize network performance by supervising performance, addressing network problems and breakdowns, and partnering with the network team to minimize issues on the network.
• Develop and implement policies and classify and oversee access to protect wireless network systems.
• Make sure that all equipment, including servers, controllers, and access points, are well-connected.
• Devise and support all KISD wireless network performance, reliability, and quality.
• Enable data and system protection by developing and maintaining mechanisms for backing up and retrieval.
• Design and deploy changes to the configurations of clients as per the applicable change management process.
• Proactively handle all wireless network security solutions.
• Make use of testing and diagnostic tools to assess and modify equipment.
Analysis and Collaboration
• Collaborate with different teams to ensure the optimized performance of mobile devices and other wireless devices.
• Work with the security team to evaluate threats, troubleshoot issues, and comply with appropriate security configuration standards of their organizations.
• Provide leadership for the Wireless Team supporting wireless network switching, routing, and collaboration services.
• Prioritize issues and delegate tasks as needed.
• Provide Wireless Team with necessary tools and credentials needed to perform onsite assessments and troubleshooting of network and collaboration environments within district facilities.
• Facilitate routine Wireless Team meetings for the purpose of reviewing/identifying issues, project planning/recommendations, supporting Network Team staff, and serving as a Network Team representative.
• Perform daily assessment of Wireless Team tickets to ensure tickets/issues are being documented and resolved.
• Act as an escalation point for tickets and issues needing additional or elevated assistance.
Senior Wireless Engineer
Recordkeeping, Reporting and Inventory
• Write manuals and document current wireless network procedures.
• Create and maintain documentation as it relates to system configuration, mapping, processes, and service records.
• Monitor and test system performance; prepare and deliver system performance statistics and reports.
• Document all issues, activities, and resolutions using consistent and clear language.
• Utilize knowledgebase and suggest documentation improvements.
Policy and Law
• Perform other duties, as assigned by the Executive Director of Infrastructure Network Operations, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of District network infrastructure services.
• Maintain confidentiality.
• Pursue Professional Development activities for self and assigned staff; ensure that Professional Development activities are aligned with District goals and initiatives and current professional research.
• Comply with all policies, operating procedures, legal requirements, and verbal and written directives.
• Comply with the Professional Code of Ethics and Standard Practices for Texas Educators.
• Follow District safety protocols and emergency procedures.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:
• Bachelor's Degree in IT or a related field of study with a network engineering focus (preferred)
• CWNA Certification or equivalent required
• CCNA R&S, CCNA Cyber Ops, CCIE R&S Certifications (preferred)
Experience:
• Five (5) to seven (7) years IT and networking experience
• Experience working with server technologies (preferred)

SPECIAL KNOWLEGDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
• Ability to implement, administer, and troubleshoot network infrastructure devices, including wireless access points, firewalls, routers, switches, and controllers
• Ability to work with others with lesser technical skills to resolve questions and issues
• Ability to evaluate the effectiveness of processes of varying levels of complexity, and to develop changes or alternatives
• Ability to develop and implement procedures, goals, and objectives
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships

• Ability to summarize complex technical issues both orally and in writing, and to justify recommendations for large-scale network changes and implementations

• Ability to work with systems, networks, and other groups in Technology Support Services to effectively communicate changes and technical problems to get them resolved in a timely manner

• Knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply related federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, rules, and regulations
• Knowledge of the principles, methods, and tools for evaluating project needs and implementation timelines
