About the Role (Breast Center)
The Advanced Practice Provider is responsible for the evaluation and treatment of patients with breast-related issues. The Advanced Practice Provider works within the construct of a multidisciplinary patient care team under the direction of a physician. He or she works with additional clinical and support staff to ensure safe, effective, quality person-centered care.
Summary of Duties Specific Breast Center:
Direct patient care services:
- Performing histories and physical exams and evaluating new breast center pts in the office and hospital setting
- Perform first assistant duties in the OR for complex surgical cases
- Perform and assist surgeons as needed with minor procedures in the office such as I&Ds and drains
- Manages patients in the pre-, intra- and post-operative setting
- Assist with preoperative teaching class as needed
- Participate with weekly Breast Tumor Boards
- Assist with quality programs/studies
- Participate in weekly Breast Tumor Boards Assist with quality programs/studies for Breast Program
Summary of General Duties:
1. Provides all care in accordance with state and federal law as well as PCI policies, standards of practice, and prescribed workflows.
2. In collaboration with a physician:
a. Conducts patient interviews and physical evaluations to evaluate and treat new and existing patients.
b. Orders and/or performs laboratory tests.
c. Order and/or performs diagnostic and/or therapeutic procedures and testing.
d. Collects and interprets diagnostic data.
e. Diagnoses medical problems, develops care plans, and prescribes treatments.
f. Arranges for consultations with or referrals to other medical professional or community services.
g. Educates patient on health habits, self-examinations, behavior management, need for follow-up assessments/treatments, at home medical care, medication and other issues related to medical or health problems.
3. Utilizing available software, documents patient histories, assessments, interventions, and interactions.
4. Provides psycho-social and emotional support to patients and care partners.
5. Recognizes the roles of the interdisciplinary team, patient and family care partners and utilizes them appropriately as resources in planning patient care.
6. Provides clinical information to the Revenue Cycle Management Department as requested for the purposes of claims and authorizations.
7. Participates in prescribed research training exercises to develop a proficient understanding of clinical trials. Applies knowledge gained to execute tasks and provide care as prescribed by the trial.
8. Communicates effectively with patients, care partners, members of the healthcare team, and third-party agents or organizations.
9. Serves as a resource to colleagues and as a preceptor to new employees as directed by organizational leadership.
10. Utilizes resources in a responsible manner with a focus on cost containment.
11. Accepts personal responsibility for professional development and growth. Participates in professional activities and organizations to maintain knowledge of current trends, practices, and developments.
12. Respects and maintains confidential information. Demonstrates proficiency in HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) concepts.
13. Attends prescribed classes and trainings as required by the organization and the clinical department.
14. Participates in organizational committees and task forces.
15. Performs related work as directed by the organization's management team.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician's Assistant program
2. Active certification as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician's Assistant
3. Active NJ licensure as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician's Assistant
4. Basic Life Support certification
5. Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification
