The labor and deliverynurse is involved in patient education and addressing the psychosocial needs ofMothers after delivery and demonstrates critical thinking and performanceability in the coordination of patient care. Consistently performs according to nursing standards and is accountablein managing patient care and assisting others in the management of patientcare. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, implement andevaluate patient care Assess signs and symptoms indicating physiologic and psychosocialchanges in the patient’s condition Collects, analyzes, and interprets data and information fromhealthcare members and documents actual and/or potential nursing diagnoses Plans for expected outcomes of care for those patientsassigned Performs interventions according to identified priorities,plan of care, and the hospital policies and patient care outcome standard Provides a safe, comfortable and therapeutic patientenvironment Uses clinical judgment in the evaluation of activities to meetpatient care needs of an assigned unit/floor including establishing priorities Monitors the safety and effectiveness of the environment andequipment Promotes interpersonal relations withpatients/family/significant others, hospital healthcare coworkers, andphysicians Uses effective communication skills with all contacts whilebeing objective and sensitive Communicates pertinent information about patient, nursingunit, and activities as appropriate Monitors vital signs for the mother and baby Administers medication as ordered Monitors contractions and fetal heart rate Identifies complications during labor and delivery Communicates the mother’s condition and needs to thephysician Coaches the mother during labor and delivery and providesemotional support Caring for the mother after she gives birth Performs other duties as assigned/necessary Minimum Requirements: Current Registered Nurse license within the state of practice.?
