The New York City Anti-Violence Project (AVP) is excited to welcome a radical new member to our teamWe are looking to add a clinician to our Client Services department. The Clinician will provide direct crisis support services, including individual and group counseling, advocacy, referrals, and accompaniment, as well as identity-affirming trauma-informed crisis support for AVP's 24-hour English/Spanish hotline.

AVP empowers lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer (LGBTQ), and HIV-affected communities and allies to end all forms of violence through organizing and education and supports survivors through counseling and advocacy. We were one of the first LGBTQ anti-violence organizations in the country and are a national leader in the anti-violence movement.

The ideal person for the job has experience providing direct clinical and advocacy services to survivors of violence and has a working knowledge of mainstream intimate partner, domestic and sexual violence services systems, including community-based organizations and the civil and criminal legal system. A commitment to ending violence within and against LGBTQ+ and HIV-affected communities is a must. Candidates who are proficient in both written and spoken Spanish are strongly encouraged to apply.

Applicants should:

  • Have a MSW degree and be LMSW-eligible, or have a related degree and license;
  • Be able to talk about their experience supporting people who identify as LGBTQ, people living with HIV, people of color, immigrants, low-income people, and survivors of violence;
  • Be comfortable and confident working in a multi-disciplinary, direct service / crisis management setting; and
  • Have the capacity to set effective boundaries and honor confidentiality.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Direct Services to Clients
  • Provide crisis intervention services and conduct intake assessments for in-coming hotline calls and/or walk-ins.
  • Provide ongoing services, including, but not limited to:
  • individual and/or group counseling;
  • advocacy and accompaniment, supporting clients' access to support and services, through helping them overcome barriers, including those rooted in institutionalized discrimination, bias, and violence;
  • follow-up contacts;
  • information and referrals.
  • Assist clients in filing for NYS Office of Victims Services compensation.
  • Provide hotline coverage during office hours and back-up services to volunteer hotline counselors overnight and after-office hours, rotating with other staff.
  • Participate in the design, development, planning, implementation, facilitation and evaluation of support groups.
  • Coordinate with the Community Organizing and Public Advocacy (COPA) Department in conducting outreach, community education, and professional training around intersecting forms of violence within and against LGBTQ and HIV-affected communities across New York City.
  • Coordinate with AVP's Legal Department to provide clients with integrated social and legal services.
  • Other Duties as Directed by Supervisor
Program-Related
  • Support development of client services programming at AVP.
  • Participate in weekly supervision, client services department meetings, trainings, and clinical case conference meetings.
  • Lead case conference meetings on a rotational basis
  • Participate in agency-wide full-staff meetings and in Anti-Oppression Working Groups as they are convened
  • Participate in in-service training and external training/seminars as appropriate
  • Assist with and attend AVP signature events, including AVP's annual Courage Awards Gala and various Pride events.
Administrative
  • Enter all client data and notes into data software system accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Maintain confidentiality and other appropriate boundaries and expectations, including abiding by HIPAA.
  • Communicate clearly and directly on all platforms utilized by AVP, e.g., Microsoft Teams, Vonage phone system, email, etc.
Organizational Relationships
  • Report to the Senior Manager of Clinical Program.
  • Work closely with other Client Service Department staff, collaborating on cases and programs.
  • Work closely with staff in the COPA and Legal Departments collaborating on cases and cross-departmental training and programs.
Hours are generally 10am - 6pm, Monday through Thursday and 10-2pm on Fridays. Overnight and/or weekend shifts to support AVP's 24-hour hotline on a rotational basis are also required, and as much as possible, scheduled in advance. This position is based in the AVP office in Lower Manhattan and will require a hybrid of both remote and in-person work.

AVP is a unionized workplace: Members of the bargaining unit are represented by the Office Professional Employees International Union Local 153. This clinician position is part of our staff bargaining unit, and employment in this position requires membership in the staff union.

SALARY & BENEFITS

Salary: $59,000. Applicants who use more than one language at work are eligible to receive a $1,500 salary enhancement in addition to the base salary. This is a full-time non-exempt hourly position with benefits, vacation, sick time and more.
