Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Specialized Facilities Maintenance
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, test, and repair facility equipment failures. Supports multiple complex facilities and address maintenance related incidents some of which could be severe in nature. Troubleshoots and addresses high priority or complex repairs and maintenance
- Examine and test machinery, equipment, components, and parts for defects to ensure proper functioning. Inspects facilities and equipment to identify construction, equipment, and mechanical needs; maintains records and prepares reports, which includes estimating materials, labor, and equipment costs.
- Perform routine maintenance, such as inspecting gauges, drives, motors, or belts, checking fluid levels, replacing filters, or doing other preventive maintenance actions.
- Coordinates work tasks or activities on projects involving the construction, maintenance, and repair of buildings and facilities.
- Collaborates with other trades workers in the repair, maintenance and servicing of equipment and facilities, which may include journey-level electrician, plumber, HVAC, or similar construction trades specialties.
- Trains or prepares for entry to a journey level skilled trades area.
- Uses schematics, blueprints, sketches, or oral instructions to sketch, plan, and design the installation, maintenance, and repair of machines, equipment, and facility structures.
- Utilize a computer basis work order system for tracking work assignments and work completed.
- Maintain records on facilities and attractions equipment and prepare daily activity reports.
- Observes all common safety practices. Ensures work areas are cleaned.
- May train lower level technical or labor positions or new staff.
- May be required to be on-call to address emergent needs and responds to afterhours calls or emergency calls outside of normal scheduled or business hours.
- May participate in snow removal duties.
- Other assistance, as designated by the Multi-Trades Managers, to support the overall goals of the department and organization.
- Estimates materials, labor, and equipment costs. Acts as a good steward of DZCA's resources.
- The nature of this position requires safeguarding against the release of confidential and proprietary information of DZCA.
- This position will interact with managers at all levels and staff members across the organization, in addition to members of external organizations and the public.
- Completion or in pursuit of a or high school degree or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate.
- Three (3) years of experience performing a variety of duties in construction, mechanical, or facility maintenance or any equivalent combination of experience, lived experience, and/or special skills.
- Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite are preferred.
- Requires organizational skills, written and oral communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize work and tasks. Requires adaptability to produce and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, multi-task and changing environment, and the ability to work as part of a team.
- Requires the ability to embrace, support, and integrate Denver Zoo's philosophies to promote and demonstrate its commitment to diversity, inclusion, equity, and anti-racism.
- Ability to pass a physical examination, background check and pre-employment drug and alcohol screen.
- Clear driving record.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Schedule Availability: Four 10-hour shifts or five 8-hour shifts including weekends and evenings as needed.

Compensation
Range for this position is $24.43 - $35.42 (hourly)
