Medication Tech
Description
SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
As a Med Tech you will administer prescribed medication and treatments to residents and maintain complete and accurate medical records. All responsibilities will be conducted in a manner that is consistent with Hearthstone's mission vision and values and in accordance with the Oregon State Regulations for safe medication administration.
Friday/Saturday Day Shift and Sunday/Monday Swing Shift
MED TECH ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Administration of prescribed medication and treatments. May be Delegated to perform blood sugar testing and insulin injections.
- Manage the storage of medications according to policies and procedures.
- Transcribe physician orders completely and accurately.
- Make and receive phone calls to physician offices and pharmacy for information and clarification.
- Observe and report changes in resident's physical or behavioral conditions to Nurse and complete documentation on actions.
- Take and record vital signs, as directed.
- Prepare chart for new residents.
- Acting Person in Charge in managements absence.
- Knowledgeable in use of equipment.
- Make copies of chart materials to go with resident when leaving for hospital or physician appointment.
- Maintain cleanliness and order in Medication Room and Chart Room.
- Report needs for health care supplies to RCC or Nurse.
- Must be able to think, act and intervene independently in both routine and emergency situations.
- Will be the point-person in charge, responding to fire alarms as described in policy and procedures.
- Work collaboratively with Health Services team.
- Demonstrates an appreciation of the heritage, values, and wisdom of the residents and an understanding of the aging process.
- Participates in projects, in-services, or committees, as assigned.
- Must be able to work flexible hours.
- Assist with scheduling as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school graduate or GED
- Previous experience in a Med Tech role
- Minimum age 18
- Excellent leadership skills
- Computer skills
- Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills
- Current CPR and First Aid
- Ability to stand /walk up to eight hours per day
- Must be able to lift/push up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to lift, stand, bend, squat, crawl, reach, and kneel using good body mechanics for sustained periods of time.
- Must possess sight/hearing, or use prosthetics, that is adequate that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
- Exposed to body fluids, infection, odors, and possible resident behavior
- Exposed to chemicals and cleaning solutions
