JOB TITLE: Clinic RN

SUPERVISOR: Office Supervisor

HOURS PER WEEK: 32hrs (Mon/Tues/Thurs/Fri 8:30am-5:30pm - Wednesday's Off)/Non-Exempt

DEPARTMENT: Nursing Services

HIRING BONUS: $1,000 after 90 days

The following information is designed to outline the essential functions and position requirements of this job. It does not identify all tasks that may be expected, nor address the performance standards that must be maintained.

PRIMARY FUNCTION: Support various departments by providing professional nursing care for the comfort and well-being of the patient, prepare equipment, and assist provider during examinations and treatment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (*ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)
1. Patient assessment, preparation for exam, and/or treatment. Assisting the provider as needed in diagnostic and/or surgical procedures and exams specific to each department's needs. Provide wound or injury care and dressing, suture or staple removal as directed by the provider.*
2. Triage phone calls and walk-in patients; make assessments based on patient needs for appointments, advice, or other treatment. Report to provider, document, and schedule as necessary.*
3. Communicate effectively with co-workers as to what was done in their absence and any need for follow-up.*
4. Administer, call in medications, and document as ordered by the provider. Maintain controlled substance records and policies as directed by The Portland Clinic (TPC) policy. Provide intravenous access and administration as needed. (IV refresher training provided if needed)*
5. Manage a desk in an individual or group setting, organizing schedules, test scheduling and reporting, and referrals. Supply storage and ordering, care, preparation and disposition of laboratory specimens, cleaning and preparing instruments and equipment for sterilization. Cleaning exam rooms and nursing station area; daily/weekly log book checks such as Cidex, eyewash or refrigerator temperatures; other general department and patient management.*
6. Follow TPC guidelines for documentation, including use of forms and computer data entry using Electronic Health Record (EHR).*
7. Comply with HIPAA regulations at all times.*
8. Follow OSHA and TPC guidelines and policies for the prevention of the spread of bloodborne pathogens, including: maintaining a clean work environment, use of safety and personal protective equipment, and engineering controls.*
9. Maintain safety standards such as use of patient safety equipment, knowledge of emergency procedures, use of handrails on stairs, body mechanics, and ergonomics.*
10. Participate in code and triage team activities, maintain current BLS card.
11. Attend nursing meetings and in-services.
12. Participate in certain committees to represent the nursing staff.
13. Counsel and educate patients regarding issues such as wound or injury care, diabetic teaching, symptom monitoring, back care, emotional issues, and other health care related concerns.
14. Participate as a team member to assist and train others as needed. Work under the minimal supervision of Physicians and Nurse Practitioners.*
15. Provide a leadership and supervisory role for LPNs, MAs, and non-licensed personnel as appropriate.*
16. Maintain regular work attendance and punctuality.*
17. Employees will not be discourteous or disrespectful to a customer or any member of the public while in the course and scope of company business.*
18. Work in a cooperative manner with management/supervisors, coworkers, customers, and vendors.*
19. Abide by company policies.*
20. Assist/float to other departments as needed.*
21. Participate as an active care team member in a patient-centered medical home.

EQUIPMENT USED: Stethoscope, blood pressure cuff, watch with second hand, computer, phone, printer, fax, and department specific equipment.

EDUCATION/LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS:
• RN graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
• Valid Oregon Nursing License
• Current BLS

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS PREFERRED:
• Basic understanding of Medical Terminology
• Current diagnosis and procedural coding
• Basic understanding of infection control
