Nurse Practitioner/Physican Assistant

The department of Spine and Pain is seeking a full-time Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner from Monday - Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm at the University Clinic.
Duties include providing diagnostic, therapeutic and preventative medicine under the supervision of the physician, working with both Neurosurgeons and Interventionalists.
An Illinois state Advanced Practice Nurse Certified Nurse Practitioner license and Illinois Advanced Practice Nurse Controlled Substance license is required.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Demands include sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, stretching and lifting up to 25 pounds. Hearing within, or correctable to, normal range, vision correctable to 20/20 and manual dexterity for the operation of office equipment is required.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed in a clinical setting and requires frequent exposure to sharp objects, communicable diseases, bodily fluids, toxic substances and other conditions common to a clinic environment. Requirements may include working irregular hours.
JOB DUTIES: (This list may not include all of the duties assigned.)
- Obtain complete medical history and physical data on patients. Review patient records.
- Interpret and integrate data to determine appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures needed.
- Perform a complete and/or focused physical exam and record findings. Establish presumptive diagnosis if needed.
- Order appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures. Synthesize data to determine preliminary diagnosis and therapeutic plan utilizing principles of prevention.
- Administer injections, immunizations and/or oral medications, as needed.
- Prepare written prescription orders for drugs and controlled substances.
- Interview and advise patients regarding health and illness prevention.
- Recommend community resources to meet patient and family needs.
- Instruct patient and family regarding medication and treatment instructions. Provide patient education.
- Assist physicians by recording patient progress notes, issuing diagnostic orders and transcribing orders.
- Triage patient telephone calls and provide consultation.
- Perform independent evaluations and treatment procedures in emergency situations.
- Communicate effectively with providers and staff.
- Provide monitoring and continuity of care between physician visits.
- Perform related work as required.
- Graduation from an accredited school of nursing
- Successful completion of a post basic advanced practice formal education program
- Successful completion of all other requirements to practice as a nurse practitioner
- Evidence of annual completion of health related courses and/or seminars with a certificate or CEU's
