Job Description

Land surveying is among the oldest and most captivating professions known to mankind. It has roots dating back to the early civilizations and kingdoms, where it was used to establish land ownership through boundary records and to aid in the construction of renowned monuments. Essentially, land surveying plays a critical role in determining land ownership, facilitating land transactions, and is particularly vital to Cowan Group Engineering (CGE) within the civil engineering industry. Moreover, land surveyors uncover and weave a narrative around each project. At CGE, we recognize that surveying forms the cornerstone of every endeavor. Without survey, our work would not be possible. The role of Land Survey Team Lead is essential to our success. We invite you to join us in shaping your story as part of our team

WHO WE ARE:
Cowan Group Engineering strives to put the client first, and that starts with our team of employees. Our team is highly valued, which you will experience firsthand when beginning a career with CGE. We have a culture focused on communication, integrity, knowledge, optimism, and growth. As a rapidly growing local company, we are a general civil engineering and land surveying firm with over fifty employees located in Oklahoma City. Our business culture is guided by innovative thinking, open and honest communication, using resources wisely, involving the customer early in the decision-making process, and investing in staff through training and job enrichment. Our company profile is diversified to meet the challenges of the economy and provide design and management services to our clientele and other engineering firms.

THE ROLE OF THE FIELD SURVEY TECHNICIAN:
As a Field Survey Technician at CGE, you will play a crucial role in supporting the professional licensed surveyors in their various duties related to Civil Engineering services. This position reports directly to the Survey Manger and will:
• Assist in the preparation of topographic, property boundary, engineering design surveys and construction staking.
• Assist in processing of survey data and drawing production.
• Exhibit strong attention to detail.
• Display excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently and with a team.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Responsible for conducting field surveys to collect data related to land boundaries, topography, existing structures, and other relevant features. This data will be used for the preparation of engineering and transactional surveys.
• Operate surveying instruments such as total stations, GPS equipment, and laser measuring devices to gather precise measurements and information.
• Collaborate with Survey Party Chief and licensed surveyors to analyze survey data and ensure its accuracy. This involves processing collected data to create detailed maps, plans, and reports.
• Assist in marking points, boundaries, and reference markers on the ground to guide construction activities and ensure alignment with the project plans.
• Maintain accurate and organized field notes, sketches, and records of survey activities. This documentation is crucial for maintaining the integrity of the survey data.
• Keep surveying equipment clean, calibrated, and in good working condition to ensure accurate measurements and reliable results.
• Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines while working in the field. Maintain awareness of potential hazards and take necessary precautions.
• Collaborate effectively with the surveying team and project managers to ensure that project goals are met and that data is accurately collected and communicated.
