POSITION OVERVIEW

Southwest Concrete Paving Co. is in search of motivated and career-focused individuals to enhance our skilled survey team dedicated to concrete pavement and related substrate construction activities. The survey technician will play a crucial role in supporting all facets of site surveying for concrete paving, including base and subbase layers, as well as overseeing demolition and other associated tasks. This role requires travel as the selected candidate will join a paving crew to assist with project layout and control functions. The ability to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment is essential, and occasional night and weekend work may be necessary.


The ideal candidate should possess at least a foundational understanding of surveying methods, tools, and software, along with the capability to interpret project plans and specifications. Training and opportunities for further education will be provided, and candidates with an interest in 3D modeling software are encouraged to apply.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Familiarity with Trimble, Topcon, or Leica software products is advantageous but not mandatory;
  2. Proficient in using Leica GPS and conventional surveying/layout equipment;
  3. Experience with essential equipment such as total stations, radio communicators, and data collectors;
  4. Responsible for daily setup, teardown, and maintenance of equipment;
  5. Computer skills necessary for submitting daily files, including data downloading and field data organization;
  6. Generate and submit basic reports from collected data for preparation;
  7. Analyze information and evaluate results to identify optimal solutions and resolve issues;
  8. Conduct grade checks during pre-construction and construction phases to ensure compliance;
  9. Gather information from all relevant sources through observation and communication;
  10. Proficiency in Microsoft software is required;
  11. Knowledge of string-less 3D paving technology is preferred but not essential;
  12. Ability to read and comprehend project plans and specifications.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  1. Execute construction layout, existing topography, and as-built data collection;
  2. Plan and perform ground surveys to establish baselines, elevations, and other geodetic measurements;
  3. Establish survey control for application in construction projects;
  4. Assist Project Managers, Superintendents, Engineers, and Quality Control as needed;
  5. Undertake additional tasks as directed by management.
