As an Underwriting Manager for Small Businesses at Starr Insurance, you will play a key role in driving the underwriting strategy and growth within your designated region. You will lead a team of underwriters responsible for evaluating and pricing risks associated with small business insurance applications, ensuring profitability and adherence to company guidelines.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement underwriting strategies to achieve business growth and profitability targets in the small business segment.
- Lead and mentor a team of underwriters, providing guidance, training, and performance feedback to drive excellence and continuous improvement.
- Evaluate and underwrite small business insurance applications, analyzing risk factors and determining appropriate coverage and pricing.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including sales, claims, and product development teams, to drive cross-functional initiatives and deliver exceptional customer service.
- Monitor market trends, competitive landscape, and regulatory changes to identify opportunities and risks, informing strategic decision-making.
- Foster strong relationships with external partners, including brokers, agents, and clients, to drive business development and retention efforts.
- Ensure compliance with company underwriting guidelines, policies, and procedures, as well as regulatory requirements. *
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Risk Management, or related field. Master's degree or professional designation (e.g., CPCU, AU) preferred.
- Minimum of 5 - 7 years of experience in commercial underwriting, with a focus on small businesses.
- Proven track record of leadership and team management, with experience in coaching, developing, and motivating high-performing teams.
- Strong analytical and decision-making skills, with the ability to assess complex risks and make sound underwriting decisions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Results-oriented mindset, with a focus on driving business growth, profitability, and customer satisfaction.
- Knowledge of insurance industry regulations, market trends, and emerging risks.
