Mental Health Tech/ Unit Secretary - Full Time Days - Piedmont Eastside

Hours: 7am- 7 pm. 3 days a week. Must be able to work every other Saturday and Sunday.

*HIGHLY PREFERRED Mental Health Tech (inpatient) experience and Unit Secretary experience

JOB PURPOSE:
Provides therapeutic patient care under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse as designed
by the policies and procedures of Piedmont Behavioral Health.

Mental Health Tech:
Provides care for psychiatric and/or chemical dependency patients.
Documents patient care.
Promotes customer service initiatives and Piedmont Healthcare Service Values.
Documents all patient care, observed patient behaviors based on established
hospital/unit policies and procedures, and Standards of Care/Practice.
Serves as the patient and family advocate with respect to the patient's right to privacy by
protecting confidential information.
Participates and cooperates in the unit-based Performance Improvement process and
utilizes plan to improve patient safety.
Follows established guidelines for reporting a significant medical error or unanticipated
outcome in the patients care that results in patient harm or potential harm.
Attends in-service presentations and completes all mandatory education requirements
timely.
Utilizes treatment model and nursing process for individual care to meet needs of
patients.
Demonstrates ability to perform technical skills and procedures.
Promotes compliance with National Patient Safety Goals.
Provides total hygiene care including skin care, bathing, toileting, etc.
Assists with patient ambulation in room, hall, and bathroom.
Assists in feeding patients, offering fluids and snacks, recording amounts consumed.
Documents vital signs and informs nurse of any change in patient status.
Assists with stocking supplies and maintains clean working environment.
Assists co-workers to meet patient care needs.
Implements ordered level of observation (I.e. q 15 mins, line of sight, or 1:1) and
documents such observation in the medical record.
As a crisis prevention intervention trained staff member, responds appropriately to a
manpower request.
Actively seeks ways to control costs without compromising patient safety, quality of care,
or the services delivered.
Demonstrates knowledge of the occurrence reporting system. Uses systems to report
potential patient safety issues.
Other duties as assigned

BH Unit Secretary:
Conducts clerical transactions necessary to help facilitate movement of the patient
through the organization and beyond.
Acts as a resource to staff for clerical procedures and provides orientation to the
secretary role as well as computer functions to all levels of staff.
Responsible for ordering and maintaining an adequate inventory of forms and supplies.
Coordinates volunteers/auxiliary deployment on the unit.
Makes rounds at shift change, auditing white boards and updating as necessary.
Performs discharge phone calls in a confidential mannerResponsible for assigning,
tracking, and cleaning telemetry transmitters and phones on the unit(s.)
Ensures all records are complete and kept secure following HIM and HIPPA guidelines;
restraint data collection.
Maintains confidentiality at all times.
Screens and refers all incoming calls and visitors to ensure that accurate and timely
communication is facilitated and that the hospital is presented in a positive manner.
Maintains and organizes bulletin boards in the department. Ensures that staff lounge
areas are clean, tidy, and organized.
Sets up call system for patient care assignments and ensures that phones are functioning
properly.
Act as a care partner provide comfort rounds (contact with family during crisis)-
answering questions, providing blankets & snacks.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
Knowledge of human growth and development, range of treatment and care of patients
appropriate to ages of patients served.
Skill and ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in-writing.
Skill and ability to handle multiple priorities and deadlines.
Ability to work as a member of a team.
Skill and ability in Microsoft Office applications.

Qualifications:
MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent required
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
None
MINIMUM LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED BY LAW:
None
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
B.S/B.A in behavioral health sciences preferred.
Preferred experience in Behavioral health and/ or addictive disease.
BLS - American Heart Association required
Crisis Prevention within 60 days of hire
