UI Health is seeking a Cardiac Sonographer Manager to join our Heart Center. This role supervises cardiac sonography programs and cardiac imaging activities in the outpatient areas. They direct, coordinate, and evaluate the work of lower-level cardiac sonographers, ensuring clinical compliance and patient safety during cardiac echo testing. They are responsible for educational support and quality control in conjunction with the medical director of the echocardiography laboratory. They will also coordinate and conduct research studies involving sonography services. The cardiac sonographer manager will be responsible for the management of one or more ambulatory outpatient sites, including offsite clinics.
Duties & Responsibilities:

Plan the scope, emphasis, and prioritize the objectives of the outpatient cardiac echo labs;
  • Ensure that all outpatient services meet clinical needs, regulatory compliance, and accreditation requirements.
  • Collaborates with clinic administration and medical director to ensure that the clinical needs are met across the Outpatient Care Centers.
  • Coordinates the echocardiogram procedural and testing needs with those of other departments to ensure prompt, efficient, and safe patient care.
  • Establishes procedures and workflows in alignment with organizational regulations and professional standards.
  • Manage the technical training and activities of staff and students to ensure compliance with established procedures.
  • Responsible for review and quality management of sonographic images, addressing issues, and implementing changes or corrections as warranted.
  • Ensures that staff are aware of current policies and procedures regarding patient exposure and safety regulations.
  • Responsible for the development and implementation of changes in sonographic practices and techniques and the development of operational manuals such as the development of emergency procedures and escalations.
  • Respond as needed in disaster situations; enforce policies and procedures related to electronic medical records, patient identification, and downtime practices.
  • Manages outpatient research projects along with the medical director and principal investigators, assigning and training specific projects to staff members.
Participates in decision-making related to cardiac sonographer hiring, training, discipline, and promotions;
  • Assumes responsibility for cardiac sonographer performance evaluation, addresses staff issues and concerns according to applicable policies, procedures,
  • Schedules in-services, training, and image review, keeping staff informed of new procedures, equipment, and regulatory requirements. Assists with the coordination of continuing education to meet regulatory and accrediting agency requirements for quality assurance.
  • Orientates, schedules, coordinates, and supervises all outpatient staff sonographers.
Consult and advise to administration regarding budget and equipment;
  • Provide support for budget estimates including staffing, supplies and equipment, contractual services, and upgrades; collects quotes and equipment specifications for technical items; reviews bids; prepares statistical reports of activities and expenditures
  • Meet with sales and technical representatives for equipment; coordinates and participates in testing of new equipment; evaluates test results and make recommendations.
  • Regulates supplies and equipment, adjusting with demand and budget requirements
Develop and update clinical policy, guidelines, and protocols; maintain and update protocols.

Prepare and maintain outpatient clinical documentation to meet state annual inspection criteria for equipment and personnel as well as accreditation.

Collaborates with administration and medical director to customize the clinical content of the electronic medical records (e.g., tests, services, service providers, referral forms, billing, scheduling, etc.).

Create reports and data inquiries using various software.

Maintain and troubleshoot sonography equipment, imaging systems (PACS), and reporting platform, ensuring that all components are functioning, and all external sites are appropriately connected.

Performs duties at the lower level of this series, as required or when clinically necessary.

Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications Required:
  1. High school graduate or equivalent.
  2. Current/valid registration, certification or licensure in ANY of the following in Echocardiography:
    • Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) or Registered Congenital Cardiac Sonographer (RCCS) from Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI)
    • Advanced Cardiac Sonographer (ACS) from Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI)
    • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) from American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS)
  3. Four (4) years (48 months) of progressively more responsible work experience in the designated area of specialty.
  4. Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification - American Heart Association BLS CPR Certification

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of the operations and mechanics of all cardiac sonography equipment.
  • Knowledge of health care facilities' computer systems.
  • Skill in conducting patient education.
  • Skill in proper documentation of results.
  • Skill in utilizing computers and associated specialized application software for cardiac sonographic examination and evaluation.
  • Skill in the effective, efficient and safe use of equipment.
  • Skill in preparing clear and concise reports, charts and other written material.
  • Ability to perform administrative duties.
  • Ability to evaluate and determine priorities of patients' care.
  • Ability to quickly respond to patients' needs in an emergency situation.
  • Ability to organize, direct, and evaluate the activities of students and departmental staff members.
  • Ability to conduct cost analysis and studies on ultrasound equipment.
  • Ability to act as consultant to medical personnel.
  • Ability to conduct research studies and devise new methods for cardiac sonographic examinations.
  • Ability to prepare technical reports.
