Description/Job Summary

The IUPAT General Organizer will report directly to the IUPAT Organizing Director. The successful candidate will assist in leading Organizing Campaigns as assigned. The IUPAT General Organizer will be collaborating with the Organizing Director as well as other national staff to facilitate the IUPAT's mission to create, develop, and execute a labor movement that is inclusive, relevant and an effective representative body of all workers in the Finishing Trades Industry.

Responsibilities/Duties

  • Responsible for ensuring the assigned campaigns are implementing action plans and meeting deadlines.

  • Responsible for working closely with the International Organizing Director in all other aspects as required.

  • Responsible for working with District Council Directors and Organizers in the field and providing mentorship to them on a daily and weekly basis.

  • Responsible for working within the established budget.

  • Responsible for timely filing of weekly reports.

  • Performing all other job-related duties as required.

  • Responsible for continued travel and coordination within their assigned District Councils.

Required Skills

Must maintain strong working relationships throughout the organization with a heavy emphasis on the following International staff positions:

  • Lead Organizers

  • Assigned Organizing Staff

  • Government Affairs Staff Director and Regional Political Directors

  • FTI/ATR

  • Communications

Must work on establishing strong relationships within the assigned District Councils with a heavy emphasis on the following positions:

  • Business Manager Secretary Treasurer (BMST)

  • Directors of Organizing, Servicing, Government Affairs and Training

  • Business Representatives

  • Organizers

Must work closely to build and maintain relationships with external partners at the local level with a heavy emphasis on the following:

  • Like minded AFL-CIO Affiliates and Central Labor Councils

  • Community Organizations

Policy and Advocacy Organizations

Preferred Experience

  • Organizing, social justice, or community campaign experience is preferred

  • 2-5 years' experience in relevant fields such as labor unions and/or issue political campaigns is a plus

  • Knowledge of and commitment towards the labor movement

Required Qualifications

  • Must be well versed in applicable labor law, strategic planning, research, and union organizing

  • Must have command of management skills and leadership development

  • Must take initiative to lead, be flexible when needed, and develop a culture of teamwork

  • Must be a strong communicator of the vision throughout all networks and relationships

  • Must have a strong command of time management skills and manage multiple relationships

Details

Working environment will be a combination of office work and fieldwork. The individual selected will be expected to travel as a component of this position.
