Responsibilities Function: 1. Admit, evaluate, diagnose, and follow up with inpatients regularly (volume to depend on other responsibilities). 2. Participate in treatment planning with interdisciplinary team. 3. Educate patients and families regarding symptoms and treatment. 4. Provide accurate and timely discharge instructions to outpatient providers and families. 5. Provide consultation to Salem Hospital inpatients and emergency patients. 6. Provide call coverage to Emergency Department and inpatient unit. 7. Provide support to physicians providing weekend coverage. 8. Participate in educational and quality improvement activities, including: Attend educational and organizational meetings as appropriate. Educate medical staff, hospital staff, community, and public regarding psychiatric assessment, treatment, and related issues. Participate in continuing medical education related to job and privileges. Participate in hospital efforts and policies to maintain a patient safety culture and reduce medical errors. Support efforts to improve patient satisfaction. 1. Achieve patient outcomes that consistently meet or exceed standards as defined by comparative data, medical literature and peer review. 2. Provide appropriate patient services that consistently meet or exceed standards as defined by comparative data, medical literature, and peer review. 3. Use evidence-based guidelines as appropriate in selecting effective approaches to diagnosis and treatment. 4. Order medications consistent with medical guidelines. 5. Maintain medical records documentation consistent with medical staff bylaws and rules. 6. Ensure timely care of patients. 7. Respond in timely and appropriate manner to information regarding patient dissatisfaction. 9. Communicate effectively with patients and families and other providers. 10. Manage the use of patient care resources, including team members according to service line standards. 11. At all times act in a professional and respectful manner with patients, families, team members, and other personnel to enhance a spirit of cooperation and mutual respect and trust among members of the patient care team. 12. Resolve disagreements in a constructive, respectful, and direct manner away from patients and non-involved caregivers. 13. Respect patient privacy when talking with others. Other Information Education: MD or DO degree from an approved school of medicine or osteopathy. Experience: Provision of inpatient, outpatient or consultative psychiatry services for at least 30 patients during the past 2 years, or provision of substantive competent clinical psychiatry services during the past 2 years. Licenses/ Certification/ Registration: Current unrestricted license as a physician in the State of Oregon. Current, valid and unrestricted DEA certification. Current board certification in Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology or the American Osteopathic Board of Neurology and Psychiatry, or board eligible and achieve board certification within 5 years.
