ABOUT THE POSITION

The Student Administrative Systems (SAS) team oversees the School of the Art Institute of Chicago's Student Information and Admissions systems as well as the student-centric Data Warehouse. With their commitment to innovation, these analysts seek, develop, and help implement strategic initiatives for improved efficiency, productivity and decision making capabilities. The Senior Business Analyst within this team is responsible for gathering, documenting and analyzing business requirements for the systems that SAS team supports. They will also play a role in delivering technical requirements, test plans and easy to digest training guides for our end-users.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Drive awareness and demonstrate value of formal business requirements across SAIC's departments
  • Serve as liaison between IT and business end-users
  • Collect business requirements through interviews or facilitated sessions with the ultimate goals of:
    • expanding SAIC's Data Warehouse analytics
    • enhancing Campus Solutions functionality, and
    • facilitating business processes utilizing workflow automation software
  • Convert business requirements into written functional / technical specifications as input for SAIC's Peoplesoft and Data Warehouse development teams.
  • Serve as thought leader for technical business processes, developing systems prototypes that promote increased efficiency and productivity on multiple levels
  • Contribute to test, change management and implementation plans for major projects
  • Participate in regular Data Governance Committee meetings to help prioritize new analytical capabilities, improve data quality/integrity and secure data amongst the various user groups.
  • Peer review ETL mappings, SQL code, etc to ensure the delivery meets the Business requirement
  • Configuring/setup of data analysis and visualization tools
  • Identify opportunities for eliminating or streamlining manual reporting and business processes
  • Perform data analysis based on User queries and issues and identify root causes Constantly examine quality processes for inefficiencies and makes improvements
  • Demonstrate ability to understand and work effectively within complex IT environment containing, multiple development and testing environments, sharing of environment with multiple teams
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Information Systems
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required, IIBA certification or other business analyst training/certification is a plus
  • Minimum 1-3 years previous related experience in a higher education setting including familiarity with its common academic and business processes strongly preferred
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Strong critical thinking skills, including ability to approach problems objectively, draw valid conclusions, and develop viable options and recommendations for action
  • Demonstrated ability to be tactful, discreet, diplomatic, and able to deal with confidential information
  • Effective analytical, quantitative, and communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate complex information in verbal, written and graphic form to a variety of audiences
  • Experience with self-service data visualization and analysis software in a production environment, especially MS Power BI, Tablaeu or a similar toolset strongly preferred
  • Experience with Peoplesoft Campus Solutions (Student Information System) is seen as a distinct plus
