Job Summary:

The Medical Assistant Manager oversees and supervises the team of Medical Assistants at all clinic locations, providing overall direction and management of care delivery.  The Medical Assistant Manager supports the operations of the clinic and department leaders to promote positive patient outcomes and provides direct support by working as a Medical Assistant on the floor when needed.  Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Supervises and oversees staff activities to ensure the needs of patients and providers are met daily at all clinic sites.
  • Assigns work, creates schedules, and provides direction to the Medical Assistant team and ensures that assigned tasks are completed.
  • Actively participates in the training process of new Medical Assistant staff.
  • Communicates effectively and closely with the Clinical Services Nurse Manager to ensure all needs for training have been met by new team members.
  • Monitors the performance of staff. Conducts performance evaluations and participates in disciplinary processes as needed.
  • Coordinates and leads team meetings.
  • Shadows Medical Assistant team.
  • Acts as liaison between medical providers and Medical Assistants, mediating issues and problems as necessary.
  • Acts as a change agent for continuous improvement results.
  • Participates in the selection of Medical Assistant staff by performing duties such as interviewing applicants and providing input on selection.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Completion of all requirements in a recognized Clinical Support training program or equivalent.
  • At least 1 year of previous leadership experience required.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Proficient in typing, spelling, punctuation, grammar, and oral communication.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Knowledge of anatomy and medical terminology.
  • Recognition of physical exam process and ability to record exam details. 
  • Organizational skills with focus on tracking patient care and improving patient flow.
  • Professional demeanor and recognition of privacy considerations for patients and families.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Ability to work well whether alone or as part of a team.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in a clinic setting.  While the position is based in Edina, travel to other clinic locations (Maple Grove, Chaska, Burnsville, Woodbury, and Maplewood) may be required, dependent upon staffing needs. 

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch; talk, hear and smell. The employee must be able to lift or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

  • Full-time: 40 hours/week
  • Non-Exempt.
  • Day Shift Monday-Friday.
  • No evenings or weekends.
