The County is recruiting new graduate nurses, or nurses new to public health, who have a Bachelor or Master of Science in Nursing to launch their career in the challenging and meaningful specialty of public health. You will have a unique and exciting opportunity to participate in a Public Health Nurse (PHN) Residency program while you learn and work as a Staff Nurse. Upon receipt of your PHN certification, you may be eligible to apply for promotion to Public Health Nurse.

The ideal candidatewill have completed the requirements for a Bachelor's degree in Nursing and have applied or are planning to apply for a California license for Public Health Nurse (PHN). In addition, the ideal candidate will have a minimum of 90 hours of supervised clinical experience in a public health setting(s) at time of appointment.

Additionally, the ideal candidate will be bilingual in any of the following languages: Arabic, Japanese, Korean, Laotian, Somali, Persian, Spanish, Filipino, Chinese, Vietnamese, Haitian-Creole.

Hiring Timelines and Dates

Interviews will take place on September 10 and September 11, 2024. Job offers for selected candidates will be made the same week. Candidates should be prepared to immediately complete background paperwork, upon receipt of a job offer.

Possession of a valid and current Registered Nurse license issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing is required at time of appointment.

  • Some experience or course work in the areas of skilled, communicable diseases, pediatric, and/or public health clinic nursing is highly desirable.

  • A valid CPR card is required at the time of appointment.
  • A valid National Provider Identification Number (NPI) is required at the time of employment.
