The primary responsibilities of a Mechanical Engineer include: researching, planning, and designing mechanical and electromechanical products and systems for ASI's robotic unmanned vehicles. Designs, develops, and tests all aspects of mechanical components, equipment, and machinery. Applies knowledge of engineering principles to design products such as engines, instruments, controls, robots, machines, etc. Conducts product testing and creates models and prototypes. Mechanical Engineers are also responsible for directing and coordinating activities involved in the fabrication, operation, application, installation, and repair of mechanical or electromechanical products and systems. A specialist in complex technical and business matters. Work is highly independent. May assume a team lead role for the work group.
Responsibilities:
- Researching and analyzing data including customer design proposals, specifications, and manuals to determine the feasibility of design or application
- Designing products or systems for robotic control using electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic principles and components
- Participating in fabrication and installation activities to ensure products and systems conform to engineering design and customer specifications
- Coordinating operation, maintenance, and repair activities that optimize utilization of machines and equipment
- Designing products and systems to interface machines, hardware, and software
- Evaluating field installations and recommending design modifications to eliminate machine or system malfunctions
- Contribute to design reviews
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field. Master's Degree preferred
- 7-10 years of Mechanical Engineering related experience
- 7-10 years of machine & product design experience using Solid Works, Pro-E, or Catia
- Proficient design skills in CAD/Solidworks software
- Proficient in manufacturing processes
- Experience in Flow analysis and thermal analysis
- Experience leading a multidiscipline team of engineers
- Experience with complex electromechanical systems design
- Experience with patent law
- Experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems
- Basic understanding of business management, sales, marketing, and business finance
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.
Physical Demands:
- Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Regularly required to sit and use and regularly required to walk, stand, and bend in the performance of daily responsibilities
- The employee is occasionally required to stand, sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
- The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
- The employee must frequently use their hands to handle or feel
