Job Description

The Ginkgo team strives to improve the FamilySearch experience for Chinese users. We work with multiple teams and applications to ease pain points and provide custom experiences for Chinese users. Chinese language skills are preferred. This is a primarily backend position. The initial project this hire will work on is matching Jiapu persons and records. The Software Development Engineer 2 is an intermediate-level, professional role responsible for developing and maintaining software source code to support a solution under the supervision of an assigned technical lead. This position also analyzes, de-bugs, tests, modifies and documents technologies and applications. As a member of a development team, the individual will receive specific work direction, most often from more senior software developers or assigned technical lead. The individual will be expected to solve moderately complex technical issues and complete programming tasks with limited supervision. This is an individual contributor role.

This individual works with divine guidance to provide or support technology that furthers the mission of the Church and reflects the eternal impact of the gospel.

Responsibilities

Participate in the analysis of functional requirements

Participate in the mapping of functional requirements to technical designs

Provide estimates for development tasks

Develop source code and unit tests according to technical designs

Participate in code reviews

Contribute to technical documentation

Participate in the Incident Management process and fix defects on a 24/7 basis

Comply with policies, standards, and regulatory requirements and ensure all others are doing the same

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent experience
  • Two years of relevant professional experience
  • Strong understanding of Agile Software Development methodologies and principles
  • Clear and accurate written communication skills and great attention to detail
  • Intermediate skills in engineering/programming, analytical/diagnostic/troubleshooting, web technology, and programming methodology
  • Conceptual understanding of systems and subsystems
  • Familiarity with Cloud Based Platforms and services
  • Practical understanding of DevSecOps
  • Familiarity with Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery principles
  • Basic knowledge of applicable software, computer languages, and code to perform the responsibilities of the role
  • Demonstrated aptitude and willingness to learn new technologies and programming languages
  • This job operates in a professional environment
  • To successfully perform the essential functions of the job there may be physical requirements which need to be met such as sitting for long periods of time and using computer monitors/equipment
Preferred:
  • Professional experience with large-scale systems including strong experience in the tools, methodologies, and technologies the role supports
  • Strong understanding of computer systems; experience in the tools, methodologies, and technologies the role supports
  • Chinese Language Skills
