Description

Plans, directs, and coordinates the purchase, stocking, and distribution of production tooling and consumables.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates a strong knowledge of shop inventory, including the item numbers, descriptions, and quantities and provides accurate reports of all tool movement activity
  • Maintains an accurate inventory count and makes adjustments to ensure those counts are correct, including tracking down and returning tools when they’re withdrawn in error
  • Confers with vendors to determine product specifications for tooling, materials, or parts, and assists in evaluation of products according to specifications and quality standards
  • Leads the evaluation and qualification of vendors
  • Acts as the primary contact for purchasing of stocked items and spot buy purchases throughout the shop and maintains an organized system to ensure the items are received and distributed correctly
  • Proactively searches for cost savings on stocked items to show year-over-year reductions in tooling costs
  • Obtains and maintains alternate vendors as required to reduce tooling expenses and provide shorter delivery lead-times
  • Estimates tooling and related costs to provide information for management and manufacturing engineering decisions
  • Interacts with engineers, quality, supervisors, production personnel, lead persons, or others to resolve production or business problems
  • Supports the manufacture of tooling, fixtures, and prototype parts
  • Presets tools for machine tool setups according to the setup sheet and/or manufacturing engineering instructions and delivers the preset tools to the correct machine manually or using a hand truck
  • Breaks down cutting tools into their basic components after manufacturing orders are complete and reconfigures them into tools required for future setups as required
  • Drives continuous improvement activities in the tool crib by driving new project ideas and implementation
  • Actively maintains a clean and organized 6S work area
Qualifications
  • Associate degree or certificate from an accredited college in manufacturing technology, engineering, or machining; or equivalent combination of education and on the job experience
  • Experience and skill in Microsoft Office including Word, Outlook and Excel
  • General knowledge of business software (MRP based systems such as Epicor/Kinetic)
  • Able to use the Internet to perform basic research
  • Familiarity with inventory tracking software
  • Prior experience in tool management and CNC machinery preferred
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and procedures
  • Ability to lift heavy objects
  • Good attendance and punctuality record
  • Excellent organizational and record-keeping skills
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to negotiate competitive pricing of purchased items
  • Able to interpret drawings and use the measuring devices needed to determine product conformance to design specifications
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Understand plant safety guidelines and pass all required safety training.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to be on feet for up to 8-12 hours per shift.
  • Use of hands and fingers to perform job function.
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, bend and climb.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
