Job Description
The Design Enablement & Automation team is seeking an experienced full-stack data scientist with strong software engineering, AI and Machine Learning skills to develop data-driven automation tools for improving business and engineering efficiency. You will be involved in all aspects in the solution development process: from data collection, to exploratory data analysis, to deploying machine learning models, data visualizations and generative AI agents to production environments.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Implementing, training, fine-tuning and deploying AI/ML models and generative AI assistants
- Setting up automated data pipelines to convert raw logs into structured data sources
- Analyzing and verifying data across multiple big data sources
- Creating interactive web-based data visualizations
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to understand requirements and deliver data-driven solutions
- Proposing and developing new features and enhancements for existing applications
REQUIRED:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Applied Statistics or equivalent
- 3+ years of professional software development experience in Python, SQL, and JavaScript
- 2+ years of AI/ML development experience
- Strong problem-solving skills and is detail-oriented
- Knowledgeable in data science, machine learning, natural language processing and statistics concepts
- Comfortable working with data across the full data pipeline, including ingestion, preprocessing, exploratory data analysis, feature engineering, model training, evaluation, and deployment
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Interest in flash, semiconductor, non-volatile memory industry
- Masters or PhD candidate in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Applied Statistics or equivalent
- Experience in full-stack web application development
- Experience with using the following technologies:
- Python: Jupyter, Apache Spark, Pandas, scikit-learn, pytorch, and other data science libraries
- JavaScript: node.js, d3.js, React
- Database: MySQL, MongoDB
- Containerization: Docker, Kubernetes
- Unix-based environments and shell scripting
- Cloud environments such as Amazon Web Services
- Hands-on experience with git, Jenkins, JIRA, Confluence, and other software development tools
- Experience in EDA / semiconductor industry is a plus
- Knowledge in physical design, design verification or emulation is a plus

Compensation & Benefits Details
- An employee's pay position within the salary range may be based on several factors including but not limited to (1) relevant education; qualifications; certifications; and experience; (2) skills, ability, knowledge of the job; (3) performance, contribution and results; (4) geographic location; (5) shift; (6) internal and external equity; and (7) business and organizational needs.
- The salary range is what we believe to be the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and this range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in California, Colorado, New York or remote jobs that can be performed in California, Colorado and New York. This range may be modified in the future.
- You will be eligible to participate in Western Digital's Short-Term Incentive (STI) Plan, which provides incentive awards based on Company and individual performance. Depending on your role and your performance, you may be eligible to participate in our annual Long-Term Incentive (LTI) program, which consists of restricted stock units (RSUs) or cash equivalents, pursuant to the terms of the LTI plan. Please note that not all roles are eligible to participate in the LTI program, and not all roles are eligible for equity under the LTI plan. RSU awards are also available to eligible new hires, subject to Western Digital's Standard Terms and Conditions for Restricted Stock Unit Awards.
