Job Summary:

Your role will encompass a variety of clinical and administrative tasks to ensure the smooth operation of the healthcare facility.

Role Functions and Responsibilities:

Clinical Duties

  • Assist healthcare providers with patient examinations and procedures.
  • Take and record vital signs, including blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respiration.
  • Collect and prepare laboratory specimens, ensuring accurate labeling and documentation.
  • Perform basic diagnostic tests, such as EKGs, phlebotomy, and point-of-care testing.
  • Administer medications, as authorized by healthcare providers, and explain dosage and administration instructions to patients.
  • Prepare and maintain examination rooms, ensuring cleanliness and availability of necessary supplies.
  • Assist patient education, providing information on medical conditions, treatment plans, and preventive care.
  • Maintain infection control protocols and ensure a clean and safe patient care environment.

Administrative Duties

  • Schedule patient appointments and manage the healthcare provider's calendar.
  • Greet patients, verify their personal information, and ensure proper documentation and insurance information.
  • Handle medical records, including filing, retrieval, and maintaining patient confidentiality.
  • Manage phone calls and relay messages to healthcare providers and patients.
  • Perform billing and coding tasks, including insurance verification and claims processing.
  • Assist with the completion of medical forms and patient registration.
  • Maintain inventory of medical supplies and order replacements as needed.
  • Coordinate referrals to specialists and follow up on test results.
  • Assist with administrative tasks as needed to support the smooth operation of the healthcare facility.

Knowledge Required:

  • Ability to collect, organize, record, and communicate, in a meaningful way, data relevant to behavioral health and medical assessments.
  • Ability to identify medical conditions that warrant medical treatment and when notify the nurse and complete a transfer of a patient to higher level of care hospital facility for indicated medical care.
  • Ability to assess the physical-psychosocial health status of patients and family based upon the knowledge of growth and development patterns and health conditions that require medical management.
  • Knowledge of pharmaceuticals in order to recognize the desired effects, side effects and complications of their use.
  • Knowledge of human behavior during stressful situations in order to exercise emotional control, tact, patience, and reliability in providing urgent patient care.
  • Ability to provide individual and family counseling, guidance, and health instruction to help patients to understand how to prevent disease and maintain good physical and mental health.
  • Will be required to utilize the facility Electronic Health Record (EHR) for all patient encounter documentation.

Qualification and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent; completion of a medical assistant training program is preferred.
  • Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) is a plus.
  • Must have training and At least 24 months of direct patient care experience within the last 48 months.
  • Certification in BLS/CPR/AED.
  • Must have or obtain cultural sensitivity training (Native American a plus).
  • Must have proof of vaccinations and all health requirements set forth by Indian Health Services including but not limited to a PPD, flu, Covid, MMR and Hep B.
  • Must be able to physically complete all trainings and requirements set forth by the facility.
  • Must be able to pass a background per IHS regulation and requirements.
