Occupational Therapist: PRN hours are Monday-Friday 8am-5pm

Pay Grade: $55 per hour
  • Performs a complete Occupational Therapy evaluation on patients referred by physiatrists and department protocol for occupational therapy.
  • Reviews medical records, interviews patient/family/others and administers standardized and non-standardized tests to evaluate the functional level of patients.
  • Analyzes and synthesizes evaluation data to identify problems for which occupational therapy intervention is appropriate.
  • Identifies long and short term goals. Includes patient participation in treatment goals and selects techniques to achieve functional goals
  • Maintains appropriate documentation on all patients' problems, response to treatment, treatment plans and goals, and other necessary observations relative to the treatment process. Provides recommendations for equipment, adaptive and/or assistive device for patients.
  • Prepares and presents case studies for Occupational Therapy departmental meetings. Prepares charge slips, appointment slips and daily log. Reports patient progress in divisional staff meetings.
  • Coordinates home programs and the need for treatment by a home care agency.
  • Participates in clinical aspects of the teaching program as required.
  • Assumes other duties and responsibilities that are related and appropriate to the position and area. The above responsibilities are a general description of the level and nature of the work assigned to this classification and are not to be considered as all-inclusive.
  • Promotes adherence to the Health Sciences Compliance Program, the Howard University Code of Ethics and the Health Sciences Standards of Conduct.
  • Attends annual and periodic mandatory Compliance Program training including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Privacy training.
  • Participates in activities that promote adherence to federal healthcare program requirements.
  • Actively participates in Health Sciences Compliance Program activities
  • Adheres to the requirements of the HIPAA Privacy Policies and Procedures.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patients, families, and staff.
  • Ability to establish priorities and exercise independent and ethical judgement in the execution of therapeutic programs and plans of care.
  • Ability to test and treat patients with a variety of modalities and exercise programs
  • Ability to adapt standard occupational therapy techniques to the needs of special populations.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and harmonious work relationships with staff, physicians, Hospital and University officials and general public.
A qualified candidate will possess:
  • Graduate from an accredited Occupational Therapy program
  • Licensed to practice in the District of Columbia
  • Certification from the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).

Required Skills

This position requires the candidate to have a Occupational Therapy license for the District of Columbia. The therapist must have at least 1 year of experience with adult clients as a licensed Occupational Therapist.
