Job Description:

Systems Engineer is responsible for assessing systems, determining problems, providing solutions to issues that arise, designing systems, upgrading systems, maintaining systems, and brainstorming possible improvements that can be made to any system in the future. This candidate will also build software that increases operational performance and developer agility.

The Systems Engineer will be responsible for the automation, scaling, and solving operations with software across our platforms. This will include identifying and resolving issues, automating, and improving repetitive processes, and working closely with the development team to identify operational needs. The Systems Engineer will need to understand the architecture of our systems and be perform deep dives of the architecture and code to develop sound solutions to issues. In addition, this candidate will drive prioritization of operational issues, and drive automation design & scaling requirements in support of the wider organization.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Ability to effectively articulate technical challenges and solutions to others
  • Ability to deal with ambiguous/undefined problems
  • Deliver strong metrics with an operational excellence focus and proven ability to deep dive into issues
  • Manages and monitors all the systems that are installed
  • Tests and maintains the operating systems, system management tools, and application software
  • Prepares catalogs that list requirements
  • Take proper security measures for the system security and operations
  • Serves as backup for Infrastructure Manager in case of any urgencies
  • Writes custom scripts to increase the efficiency of systems and this could reduce human intervention
  • Constantly monitors the application performance, identify the solution for the possible problems, and coordinate with the development team to incorporate those fixes
Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities):

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to fulfill those duties.

Education & Experience:
  • BS/MS degree in computer science or related field with 3-5 years' experience
  • Experience in installing, configuring, and troubleshooting UNIX/ Linux based environment
  • Strong knowledge of coding and scripting with a basic understanding of cloud platforms
  • Experience in automation software
  • Solid scripting skills (Shell Scripts, Perl, Ruby, and Python)
  • Solid networking knowledge (OSI network layers, TCP/IP)
  • Project management skills are a plus
Professional Qualities:
  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills, regarding interface with employees and vendors
  • Must be able to multitask and problem solve within a fast-paced environment
  • A strong commitment to safety.
Computer Skills:
  • User proficiency with Word, Excel, Project, Visio, Python, and other PC Based tools are essential
  • Strong, object-oriented design and coding skills (C/C++ and/or Java preferably on a UNIX or Linux platform)
  • Knowledge of Perl or other scripting languages a plus Experience with distributed (multi-tiered) systems, algorithms, and relational databases
