Requirements/Qualifications:
- Connecticut Certification as a School Counselor
- Master's Degree in School Counseling from an accredited college or university
- Understanding and skills in applying restorative practices
- Strong understanding of adolescent development
- Experience in counseling students, including in crisis situations
- Ability to tailor academic and behavioral interventions to meet individual student needs
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times
- Ability to interpret tests, student data and other appraisal results appropriately in the counseling environment
- Is skillful at using the Google Suite of programs and Microsoft Excel to collect and analyze data
- Adheres to ethical practices of the state and national professional counseling associations
- Adheres to all Board of Education policies and procedures
- Knowledge of a wide variety of appraisal instruments and techniques to enhance decision making and planning
- Provides Multi-Tiered Systems of Support - social-emotional-behavioral and academic interventions
- Collaborates with parents, administration, school support team, and teachers to develop individualized academic and behavioral plans
- Works with students to establish academic goals, including goals related to homework completion, attendance and behavior
- Uses evidence-based data collection system to monitor student growth
- Facilitates lunch groups for students based upon needs
- Works on transition teams for students entering and exiting Helen Keller Middle School
- Serves as case manager for students with 504 plans
- Works closely with special education teachers when students are referred for special services/testing
- Conducts goal oriented counseling sessions (individual and group sessions)
- Makes appropriate referrals to specialists
- Provides intervention/support in crisis situations
- Other duties as assigned
