Description

Berea Corps positions are grant-funded, one-year contract positions from June 1, 2024 - May 31, 2025, with the possibility of a one-year extension. The positions are only available to 2024 or 2025 Berea graduates, that have completed all of their coursework by May 2024, prior to the start of the position.

The Nontraditional Student Program Associate (NTSA) will serve as a liaison to all Nontraditional Students actively attending Berea College. The NTSA will be responsible for resource development, program coordination, management, and facility operational oversight, and will work to further sustainable practices through program collaboration with other departments. Additionally, the NTSA will serve on identified College committees to represent and serve Nontraditional Students.
Examples of Duties

  • Advise and support nontraditional students by being a resource and directing them to appropriate resources
  • Serve on the Orientation Committee for Summer Connections and other identified college committees.
  • Supervise student labor positions following all guidelines of the Labor Program.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of programming to meet the needs of nontraditional students.
  • Provide leadership to the Nontraditional Student Association.
  • Knowledge of sustainability (gardening, composting, and recycling) is preferred.
  • Support the Ecovillage and the Campus Life Department operations.
  • Assess needs and oversee the Nontraditional Student Center (NTSC)/Clubhouse facilities.
  • In support of Berea College's great commitments this position requires student supervision. The fourth great commitment is to promote learning and serving in the community through the student labor program, honoring the dignity and utility of all work, mental and manual, and taking pride in work well done. The Supervision would include scheduling, assigning, and approving work performed. Developing students about common workplace acumen and giving them tangible work experience is an expected outcome. Typical Qualifications

Education required to ensure success in this position:
  • Bachelor's Degree from Berea College, graduation date by Spring/Fall 2023 and Spring 2024
Experience required to ensure success in this position:

Special skills, knowledge, and abilities:
  • Effective communication, organization, and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Smartsheets, and experience with databases
  • Experience conducting group presentations, strong customer service orientation, and attention to detail
  • Ability to work well in diverse environments with knowledge of sustainable and/or gardening practices
  • Adaptability and flexibility; must be able to work independently as well as within a team
License, certification, or registration necessary:
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Defensive Driving/Motor pool approval
Physical requirements:
  • Able to move around campus quickly/efficiently performing repetitive movements with hands and fingers
  • Able to see computer screens and documents clearly and hear over the phone and in-person
  • Able to stand for periods up to 1 hour and able to sit for long periods of time
  • Able to work outside for extended periods of time
Environmental conditions:
