Description

Computer Technician is responsible for the installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of personal computer hardware, software, and peripherals throughout the library system, assisting staff as needed. This position assists with managing the integrated library system and library network.

Essential Job Functions

• Travels and sets up and configures PC workstations to meet users' functional specifications.

• Installs new PC software and performs PC system upgrades.

• Trains library staff on software applications and new hardware.

• Addresses problems with PC hardware and software through the use of troubleshooting techniques.

• Makes repairs onsite when possible.

• Tracks equipment sent offsite for repairs.

• Contributes to library's hardware/software inventories and repair records.

• Prioritizes requests for computer assistance and responds accordingly.

• Develops and maintains knowledge of the PC industry.

• Uses this knowledge to help assess the need for and make recommendations on the purchase, repair, and replacement of library PC hardware, software, and peripherals.

• Assists with Polaris and library network support including backups, upgrade installations, troubleshooting, and emergency shutdown.

• May participate in library-wide committees or projects.

• Help desk functions including telephone and email questions from staff

• Performs other duties and assignments as designated by Management

Requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Ability

• Proficiency with PC workstation set up and configuration, software and peripheral installation, troubleshooting techniques, and PC repair.

• Knowledge of library automation desired, Window Operating Systems, Window Server 2012, 2019 and 2022, Microsoft Office 2019 and Office 365.

• Knowledge of Camera, Audio/Visual, and VOIP systems - setup, configuration, and maintenance.

• Knowledge of Azure AD and Group Policy highly desirable.

• Ability to compose procedural documentation for IT workflows.

• Ability to organize work, set priorities, use time effectively, work independently, and meet deadlines.

• Ability to communicate well with supervisor, colleagues, vendors, and the general public.

• Ability to analyze and creatively solve problems related to the position.

• Ability to work with enthusiasm and initiative

• Knowledge of internet and online computer services.

• Ability to train/assist others in use of equipment/software.

• Ability to use phone effectively.

• Ability to work as a member of a team.

• Ability to work effectively and courteously with staff and to provide good customer service to staff and patrons.

• Ability to work independently with little supervision.

Physical Requirements

• Physical capacity and skill at installing and maintaining equipment.

• Physical capacity to lift and maneuver monitors, servers, and other equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.

• Physical capacity to crawl beneath desks and to reach up behind desks.

• Physical capacity to climb ladders to reach cable raceways in ceiling.

• Physical capacity to pull cable.

• Manual dexterity to install cable ends, network cards, modems, etc.

Minimum Education, Experience and Training

• High School Diploma required.

• A minimum of one year of experience in computer maintenance.

• College/technical training in computer science highly desirable along with A+ and Net+ certification.

• Must have a valid Louisiana driver's license

Salary Description

Range: 42 Salary Range: 27,580.80 to 35,984.00
