PRN Position for Nurse Practitioner

Performing history and physical exams for patients

Job Summary:

The Nurse Practitioner position requires considerable medical judgment to determine the appropriate procedures within scope of practice. The Nurse Practitioner requires an advanced level of competency in nursing through additional education or training as well as a Nurse Practitioner's license. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Medical Director and the Nurse Executive.

Qualifications and Requirements:

BS/BSN from an accredited School of Nursing: Master's degree in nursing; completion of a state acceptable Nurse Practitioner's program, a minimum of one year's experience is desirable. Must be licensed to practice in the State of Tennessee. Prescriptive privileges; DEA; possession of CPR card.

Performance Responsibilities

  1. Obtains and records patient's health history; performs physical exams in accordance with facility policy
  2. Diagnoses, treats and plans appropriate health care for patients in accordance with scope of practice
  3. Provides and prescribes medications according to established protocols and utilizes facility formulary appropriately
  4. Provides patient care with minimal supervision. Adapts to assignments based on unit need. Independently recognizes and assumes additional responsibility
  5. Demonstrates knowledge of specialty practice through clinical performance
  6. Communicates pertinent information to peers and physicians and acts as a patient advocate. Anticipates patient needs and makes appropriate suggestions regarding treatment
  7. Performs in a competent, calm and professional manner during crises or emergency situations. Performs proficiently and expertly. Aware of emergency medications, equipment and their location and is proficient in knowledge and use
  8. Demonstrates ability to perform procedures and skills in a safe and accurate manner. Able to perform complex procedures and skills independently or with minimum supervision
  9. Communicates and documents teaching and discharge planning
  10. Accurately and legibly documents nursing intervention and expected outcomes, noting patient response, effectiveness of intervention and complications
