Unit Census: 35.1, 36 Beds per Unit
Job Summary:
The Clinical Nurse is a Registered Professional Nurse responsible for providing safe, competent, and quality care to a designated group of patients and their families. This role involves applying nursing theory, research, and evidence-based practices, while collaborating with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to deliver patient-centered care.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Patient Care:
- Deliver patient care using the professional practice model of Relationship Centered Care, based on evidence-based practices, nursing theory, and research.
- Assess and evaluate patient care needs, utilizing critical thinking in care management.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans with the interdisciplinary team.
- Educate patients and caregivers about their care plans, health promotion, and disease prevention.
- Effectively communicate with patients, families, and all healthcare team members.
- Role model Relationship Centered Care through various patient interactions such as admission, shift report, and rounding.
- Foster therapeutic relationships with patients and families, considering their values and cultural preferences.
- Initiate service recovery when patient concerns arise, escalating to appropriate management if necessary.
- Practice empathy, respect, and active listening with patients and families.
- Provide safe, patient-centered care, addressing barriers to quality and safety.
- Implement process improvement strategies and contribute to nursing research activities.
- Collaborate on quality improvement projects and evidence-based practices.
- Identify and address potential safety hazards, ensuring compliance with best practices.
- Use technology and documentation to support quality improvement initiatives.
- Perform charge nurse duties as required and coordinate supply usage.
- Ensure sufficient staffing and resources for effective patient care.
- Oversee patient throughput and ensure efficient patient care delivery.
- Comply with documentation standards, meeting regulatory and legal requirements.
- Contribute to the care environment by supporting colleagues, patients, and families.
- Continue to advance nursing skills and knowledge through life-long learning and inquiry.
- Participate in shared decision-making and committees to improve patient care.
- Licensure: NYS RN License required
- Certifications: BLS required
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of RN experience in medicine and chemotherapy; 1 year of travel nurse experience for travel positions
- Preferred: EPIC experience
- Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred, Associate degree considered with relevant experience or active enrollment in a BSN program.
- Ability to manage assignments and responsibilities in a hospital environment
- Ability to physically assist patients when needed, using safe handling practices
