The South Railroad Project is a feasibility-stage, open pit, heap leach project located on the prolific Carlin trend in Nevada. The purpose of this role is to manage the execution of geological fieldwork leading to the discovery of economic mineral deposits. The Chief Geologist is accountable for managing and maintaining the project pipeline within the South Railroad District. This role will report directly to our site Exploration Manager.
Responsibilities include:
- Collaborate with senior management in the development, exploration, and evaluation of existing projects.
- Provide technical evaluation of project submittals for potential acquisitions.
- Collect, analyze, synthesize, and interpret complex geological data.
- Develop drill targets and implement drill programs to reach an advance-shelve-drop decision on individual targets through the peer review process.
- Direct and document special studies and laboratory testing.
- Carry out interpretation of district geological, geochemical, and geophysical data.
- Identify, propose, and implement opportunities to reduce the risk and improve the viability of the projects.
- Perform field mapping and interpretation of structures, alteration, and lithological units for exploration target definition and development.
- Generate district-scale balanced cross-sections.
- Create a 3D geological-structural-alteration district model.
- Generate geochemical correlations of surface and drill hole samples.
- Create and maintain a pipeline ranking system for projects and for drill targets.
- Discuss different solutions to problems with other technical staff.
- Mentor subordinate geologic and geotechnical staff.
- Ensure that high standards of on-site health, safety and environmental practices are continuously followed, meeting industry and Company standards.
- Work with other intercompany groups, consultants, and drill crews to ensure the safe execution of planned exploration activities.
- Develop and communicate project-level summaries to a wide variety of audiences (technical, financial, corporate).
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor of Science in Geology or related field (Master's preferred).
- At least 15 years of experience in geology and exploration.
- At least 10 years of experience in RC/Core logging.
- At least 10 years of experience in field mapping.
- Strong district scale mapping skills in structurally complex areas essential.
- Experience in Carlin-style, epithermal and Skarn-CRD style exploration models required.
- Strong computer skills - intermediate to advanced knowledge of MS Office, Project, and Excel.
- Proficiency in Micromine and Leapfrog modeling software.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
- Must be at least 21 years of age and possess a valid Driver's License with a clean driving record.
- Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals.

- Ability to sit, stand, climb stairs, walk over uneven ground for long distances, climb stairs, and withstand extreme hot and cold temperatures.
- Ability to bend, twist, lift and carry up to 60 pounds.
- Ability to drive extended distances over paved and dirt roads.
- Ability to see and hear warning signs/signals, equipment and signs.
