Position Summary:

Uses Arc GIS and various Microsoft Office programs to prepare maps, sketches, reports, alignment sheets and project specific deliverables. Supports GIS Project Managers and project teams with geospatial information.  Provides task direction to GIS Analysts and Technicians.  Interfaces with Mapping, Engineering and Survey to prepare deliverables.

Key Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for assisting GIS Project Managers in creating all required project deliverables.
  • Able to prioritize project workload for self and other GIS team members.
  • Follows set GIS standards and workflows. Develops new workflows as necessary.
  • Responsible for producing high quality data/maps on a consistent and timely basis.
  • Recommends improvements in workflow and data integrity standards and procedures.
  • Manages multiple project deliverables and delegates tasks to GIS Analyst (I&II) and GIS Technicians
  • Assists GIS Project Managers and business development personnel with estimating GIS tasks on new projects.

Complexity, Decision-Making, Problem-Solving & Nature of Impact (i.e., Scope):

  • Conforms to and utilizes established GIS standards for project deliverables.
  • Follows direction and supports efforts of GIS Project Managers
  • Evaluates and is accountable for data integrity and deliverable quality.
  • Handles changing project schedules and project scope by providing alternatives and options for GIS Project Manager
  • Able to quickly troubleshoot workflow or data integrity issues and recommend solutions.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Proficient with ESRI GIS environments and capabilities (Version 9.x or newer version)
  • Proficient with ArcToolbox in (Version 9.x or newer version)
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience with data manipulation/editing and joining tables.
  • Proficient in creating/editing shape (.shp) and other geospatial files.
  • Proficient in running ESRI/ARC based reports (Topology/Linear Reference etc.)
  • Ability to follow directions and execute direction with limited supervision.
  • Ability to manage project tasks and deliverables
  • Ability to produce maps, alignment sheets, geospatial reports, property sketches, and construction estimates.
  • Familiar/comfortable working in an ArcSDE environment.
  • Willingness to share work knowledge with GIS team.
  • Willingness to learn and advance into any field or specialization needed by the group/company.
  • Ability to multi-task

Management Responsibilities:

  • None

Qualifications (Education, Experience and Certifications):

  • Require Bachelor of Science Degree (or equivalent experience)
  • GIS Certification preferred.
  • Typically six to eight years of related experience
  • Prior training in computer programs such as ESRI and Microsoft Office

Environment/Working Conditions:

  • Most work to be performed in office environment with periodic visits to project sites and/or short-term field assignments.
  • Some travel required.

Other Considerations/Requirements:

  • Ability to sit for long periods of time; manual dexterity; may stand for prolonged periods of time, walk and/or climb through various types of terrain where balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and reaching may be required.
  • Valid driver’s license required.

Reports to GIS Department Manager
