Description

The Supplier Quality Engineer is responsible for qualifying and maintaining suppliers according to the organization's standards. Ensures that suppliers deliver quality parts, materials and services consistently. Work with sourcing, purchasing, quality, manufacturing and engineering to assist in the resolution of supplier related issues. Performs supplier audits to ensure compliance with quality standards. Evaluates supplier's internal functions to assess their overall performance and provides feedback to all departments involved. Develops and maintains the internal supplier rating and reporting system.

Key Responsibilities & Duties:

• Design and maintain standards expertise, policies, procedures, and manuals for the organization's Supplier Quality on the determination of new supply sources, supplier quality relations, standardization of measurements, and acceptable criteria of materials. Compile supplier performance KPI metrics and participate in supplier scorecard development.

• Ensures suppliers meet the organization's requirements. Develop supplier to meet these requirements as needed.

• Supports the Sourcing team in the selection and quality of potential suppliers and Support NPD (New Product Development) projects.

• Interfaces with personnel from multiple the organization's plants to resolve chronic or major supplier issues and verify that suppliers understand process/product requirements.

• Implements and maintains quality improvement and auditing systems with suppliers focusing on process controls, quality control, quality management and quality systems.

• Review engineering specifications and drawings to determine suppliers' abilities to meet parameters and reviews new and modified product designs from a material standpoint advising modifications when necessary.

• Reviews and approves Suppliers PPAP's; review and audit the deliverables including: Control Plans, Capability Studies, Part layouts, Gage R&R, PFEMA, and support or lead project management efforts regarding supplier changes.

• Involve suppliers, internal resources, plant personnel to drive containment and closed-loop closure to significant quality issue. Ensure that Supplier quality issues are resolved using an appropriate problem-solving methodology like; Root Cause, 8D and decision matrices.

• Assists multiple the organization's plants on third party audit regarding supplier qualifications and performance.

• Assist Purchasing and Customer Service to expedite product from suppliers in urgent situations

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field.

• 5+ Years Experience demonstrated quality systems knowledge and experience.

• Ability to travel expectation 50% up to 75%.

• Broad knowledge of manufacturing.

• Capable to summarize test data and report for external customers.

• Problem solving tools (KT, 8D, etc.).

• Familiarity in Advanced Quality Planning including AIAG Advanced Quality Planning and Control Plan, FMEAs, PPAPs, MSA and Statistical Process Control (SPC) standards.

• Experience using Minitab or other statistical tools.

• Strong self-motivation and communication skills.

• Strong commitment to customer satisfaction.

• Ability to think outside the box and suggest/implement continuous improvement ideas.

• Strong analytical thinking.

• Good level of inter-personal relationships, interface with foreign personal.

• Being able to perform successfully in a matrix organization; Capable to lead complex efforts on behalf of the Quality leadership across functions.

• Self-started and being able to work independently.

Licenses/Certificates:

• Six Sigma Green Belt, Black Belt, or Certified Quality Engineer preferred.

Technology/Equipment:

• Previous experience as an auditor for ISO 9001/TS 16949 or VDA Quality Systems required.
